Thank you.. I got mine to work because of this video. My problem was I was trying to connect it using both the light and fan wall switches.. Once I used one and tucked the other one away it worked perfectly. Thanks

Yeah wish I had seen this. When I tried following instructions that came with it I must have messed up because every time I flipped the switch it blew the fuse.

Thanks for this video! It was very helpful for figuring out how to REMOVE a remote control kit from a fan that was already setup when I bought this house. We wanted change out the awful wall switch for a lutron dimmer/fan control and the existing radio control kit really confused things for a bit. I didn't even know such kits existed until I started the install today!

So i installed this from this video. Great Instructions. FOllowed them exactly and did great!. Took me a while because of my fan, location etc. Did notice one thing though - i dont have dimmable bulbs but the light brightness has gone down considerably. Before the remote, the 4 bulbs were very very bright. Now they are very low. Not sure if it is something i did?? Any suggestions?
@tb37802 жыл бұрын
6 years old lol but I'll respond for others... be careful not to wire the fan main power to a dimmer. Should be an on / off switch or constant hot lead run to the black or red input wire to the remote control. From there, the remote should output the necessary voltage to both the lighting and fan to drive appropriate fan speed or dimming level. Also be careful not to reverse the outputs on remote and switch the fan vs light output.

I have question. Three wires are coming out from the fan (light,lamp & N) and be connected to the receiver. Okey, what if i intechange...light(from the inside of the fan) to lamp of the receiver or vice versa.? Will it work properly?

Ours is a bathroom light and fan, where the only wires visible are two wires for the fan. It's an extractor fan not a spinning ceiling fan. So I just want to use this to control the fan since at the moment the only way to switch the fan on and off is to climb up and disconnect the two wires. The old method was a pull chain mechanism that broke and can't be replaced. Can we use this product for just the fan, if so what is different in the wiring?
@Lovetolivetruely10 жыл бұрын
can you still wire both power switches? Or, can you only wire one.
@fixitmann66856 жыл бұрын
If you wire the red wire from the ceiling to the blue wire on the fan (and cap off the wire from the remote to the light) you should be able to use the fan controls *but NOT light control* on the remote, and control the light from the switch on the wall. (I'm not sure why you'd want to do this, however.) A better solution is to purchase a Ceiling Fan Wall Control and set it to the same code as the receiver & the battery remote (still bypassing the light switch on the wall by not using the red wire in the ceiling box.)

I installed a remote control fan and the light switch that was used to control the previous fan and light needed to be removed. Every time you flipped the switch it would blow the fuse. So I needed to cover it with a cover plate… Had I seen this beforehand I could have solved that problem.

Quick question: If you dim the light and then shut off the switch, is it still dimmed when you turn the switch back on or does it reset? My ceiling fan is too bright for everyday use so I would use this more to turn it down a bit but would also like the remote on occasion. I have a fan with a remote in another room and when I turn the switch off and on I have to actually turn the light back on using the remote. The remote controller just resets to everything off when I turn off the switch which is very annoying.
@fixitmann66856 жыл бұрын
Try replacing the wall switch with a Ceiling Fan Wall Control which works the same as the remote. This will solve your problem, and allow you to turn the fan and light on separately AT the wall or dim the lights as you see fit.

The pull chain for the light? Yes, but in order for the remote to control the light, the chain must be pulled so the light is on. then you can turn the light on and off with the remote. If you have the chain pulled so the light is in the off position, you cannot turn it on using the remote. Does that help?
@iceman12597111 жыл бұрын
Yes, thank you. I was making sure in case one day the remote went out.

What if the light and fan aren't wired to a light switch? I'm moving into a rental house and was told an electrican verified the switch isn't wired to power on the light or fan. So, I'm wondering if I could buy a remote to use instead of a switch.
@obiewilliams67178 жыл бұрын
+Erika Martin If you have a way to turn on power to the light and fan (light on, fan on high), then this remote would work for you. It basically acts as a remote-controlled interrupter between the fan/light and its main power source, so all you need is for the connection between power and fan/light to be complete before you install the remote adapter. I don't feel like I explained that well, but does that make sense? If not, I can try again.
@fixitmann66856 жыл бұрын
Have your landlord have an electrician install a wall switch for the fan. It is dangerous, AND against code to have a ceiling fan without a switch. This may require rewiring the entire room, but that can't be helped. Sounds like someone tied into a live wire going somewhere else. This is very bad!

***** you may not have dimm-able bulbs in your fan. Do you have LED's or the spiral bulbs. Most of them will not dim. It sounds like you have everything wired right. I appreciate Corey trying to help but there is not a switch int he fan base that activates the remote.

Sorry you are having trouble installing it. It has worked for so many people. It’s possible to cram them all in there. If you have too long of wires you can make them shorter to reduce the amount of wire left over.

your more a gentleman than I. I apologize. I was mighty upset putting my fan in yesterday. I thought it would be simple to find a video that clearly showed how to connect these wires. But All i could find were far away pictures and dimly lit. One guy did pretty good. He took a fan down off the wall and put it on a pole on the ground and showed how to do it but it was not wired exactly like mine so i could not use his instruction. I finally got it done and it works. But maybe a tip for the future since your an electrician is to pin point the exact thing you want to share and do well lit close ups of it and keep it under 3 minutes. Thats what folks need. Again sorry for the bad attitude. and keep on sharing.
@mitchcox10 жыл бұрын
Apology accepted. I know electrical work can be tricky and frustrating at times. I am glad to hear you were able to get yours working. I am sorry my video did not help. Also, I am not an electrician, just a guy adding a remote to my fan. I spent a lot longer figuring it out than the video displays. Once I figured it out, I thought I was helping by making a video explaining what all the wires were and where they went. I do try to keep it as short as possible, but sometimes explaining things takes a little longer than expected. Especially when you are up on a ladder, holding a camera with one hand and trying to hold things and point out wires,etc with the other. Anyway, thanks for the comment, criticism, tips and apology. See, we can be friends after all. ha.. take care.
