Excellent video showing how to install wireless remote switching for an overhead ceiling fan. I purchased wireless receiver/transmitters to convert my overhead ceiling fans so the light and fan operate separately. Easy to install and they work extremely well. My only recommendation is with the brightness of LED bulbs install receivers or complete ceiling fan units with a remote that include dimming. I also found it easier to make wire connections with lever wire connectors.

Looks great, and with a brighter bulb installed that’s all the light you need. kzbin.infoUgkxWF88GpljEn-0o34vtLFazEQ5h5Q33SjU As far as ease of installation- this was my first ceiling fan and it took about 3 hours because I had no idea what I was doing and also it’s helpful to have a second set of hands and a magnetic drill bit. Hi Terry, Thank you for your video with detailed information. I have one red extra wire. Should i cap it and leave it or it can be utilized for separate control for light and fan with individual switch. As I have two switches. If yes, where I can connect red cable?
@theinternetelectrician
@theinternetelectrician 3 жыл бұрын
If you don't want to use the remote only, you could connect that red wire on the load side of the receiver in parallel with blue wires (check the 18:00 mark of the video). That way the extra switch could be used to turn on the light with the switch or with the remote. The other option is just to use the remote for the fan and light control as it's designed.

Does the light have a delay when powered on by the switch? I installed a fan and noticed mine has a 2-3s delay when turned on by the switch. Just wondering if that is just a property of receivers or just unique to the fan I purchased.

Well done video Terry. I'm now ready to go out and buy several fan/light combo. Is there any way/brand name to synch the remote to a wall or smart switch? I just hate the idea of having to install 4 fan/light combo's and having four different remotes to keep track of. Plus I'm worried that using a remote for one fan will bleed in and control the fans in the next room over?
@theinternetelectrician
@theinternetelectrician 4 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure but these were factory paired and I installed two, one in master bedroom and the one in the video. I just checked and the remotes are different frequencies. Any brand that has dip switches for pairing will allow you to use one remote for all and I think you need to be in fairly close proximity so cross communication shouldn’t be an issue.

Hi Terry, very good video, thank you. I have a peculiar question for you, hope you can help.... Ordered a Carro Smart ceiling fan from Amazon. It has a ground, white, and black wire coming out of it. Coming out of the ceiling is a ground, white, black and a red wire. The old ceiling fan used two switches. So I hooked up the new fan as follows: ground to ground.... white to white.....black to black. It did not work. I then tried hooking the RED coming from ceiling the the fan black.....did not work. Then I tried hooking the black AND red from ceiling to the black from fan.....did not work....Any idea what I could be doing wrong, or is it a DOA fan? Thank you so much for great videos. I appeciate your time......... Craig

May seem like a dumb question, but it must be asked. Are you turning on the switch(es) when you test your fan using the remote (or the smart commands). Assuming that all is well with the power supply to the fan, must be something else wrong because from your description, you are connecting it properly.

@@theinternetelectrician Thank you so much for the info Terry, very much appreciated. Yes, I turned on BOTH switches after turning the breaker back on. Very frustrating. I know everything works up to the fan because the old fan is working perfect right now, both the light and the fan, or either one separate. Maybe just a bad contoller in the fan. I never even tried the remote because the fan never came on. It said it would come on when I turn the power and switch back on, and to hold a button on the remote for one minute, which I did, but NOTHING. The remote lit up while I was holding it, so that seemed to work. Very confusing and frustrating. Thanks again.

@@theinternetelectrician Yes, thank you for taking time to reply Terry, I appreciate it. I actually sent the fan back this morning and ordered a new one, exact same one, so keeping my fingers crossed. It's a nice fan with great features, so hope it works. One more little thing I wanted to mention is this: These fans have 24V DC motors, so there isn't any kind of adapter or anything I would need, is there? They have a converter inside the fan from the factory. Thanks again and keep up the good videos.
@theinternetelectrician
@theinternetelectrician 2 жыл бұрын
@@craigstrbo No, nothing extra needed. The electronics within the fan would produce the 24Vdc by converting the input 120Vac. Question for you if I may? I just got off of a zoom call with the creators of a new app coming out. Could you send me an email to internetelectrician@gmail.com so that I can get your input as to if you would find this concept useful, etc. I would appreciate your input for a little "market research" on this. @theinternetelectrician
@theinternetelectrician 4 жыл бұрын
there's your problem Tony. Hook up that white wire as well. That must be the neutral for the fan. Did you remote receiver have neutral wires on both the supply and the load side? If so, don't connect all the whites together as in this example, put the line neutral on the supply side, and the fan and light neutral wires to the one on the load side of the receiver.
@tonybelford9553
@tonybelford9553 4 жыл бұрын
@@theinternetelectrician there is one side of the receiver with a white and black that I can see go to the ceiling with only a white and black and then on the other side of the receiver there is a blue, white and black that match with the same colors coming out of the fan. When I hook that up only the light comes on but it kind of is at a delay. When I hook the 3 white wires up and leave the one off then the light come son and off normal but the fan still doesn't work
@theinternetelectrician
@theinternetelectrician 4 жыл бұрын
@@tonybelford9553 But in your original message you said that there is an "extra white wire on the blue side"? You should have one hot each for light and fan (normally they use blue and black). They usually have a common white wire. Some remote units have the neutral connection on both sides, but in my example here they just needed all white neutrals to be connected together. If they have a neutral on the fan connection side, then leave the white wires separate, white supply to ceiling wires, and the white to the fan / light neutral. Send me a diagram of your connection or give me the model numbers you are working with if this doesn't answer your question. terry@electrical-online.com

How do I install a support rod so I can put a fan up where a regular light went?
@theinternetelectrician
@theinternetelectrician 4 жыл бұрын
Lots to consider here. Like do you have attic access? How solid is the outlet box now? Although there are rules in place to protect us from ourselves, common sense goes a long way so if the existing box is solid, and if not you can get extra screws in to make it solid, then you can install a fan there. There are hundreds and thousands of ceiling fans in homes everywhere that are mounted without the use of an approved box or additional support rods.
