When I make patterns, I use white tissue paper from the dollar store and tape pieces together, it saves room, because they fold up like a real pattern. You could also use colored tissue if you wanted to color code something, I know some people use wrapping paper also.

Thanks for the tips it is very helpful! I used tissue papers when tracing a store bought patterns so I can see the lines. Gift wrappers are nice too but they tear up easy that's why I switch to postal or brown papers.

Yes, you can replicate a garment this way, just be sure to add seam allowances.

​@Sew Aldo DIY hi sorry another question I'm just draft one of my oversized tops it is a Jersey. But the fabric I want to use first is cotton as i have enough to a top any advice or would I just do it exactly the same? Thank you

@@tanyahuyton598 It depends on the style for example you want to sew a pull over shirt if the fabric is non- stretch you won't be able to put it on. If you are making a cardigan that has an opening on the front like a kimono it should not be a problem. Remember to add a good amount of seam allowances for adjustments.
