What I like best about your video over one by a professional was, you removed the tubes and electrical connectors one at a time to place into the new valve. My replacement parts arrived today. Unlike your slow valve, my valve (one of them) failed overnight a while back and flooded my kitchen, living room, and dining room. We just discovered that the water inlet valve in our GE fridge started spraying water and leaked into the basement. I've ordered the part, so your video will prove useful when it arrives and I replace the failed one. About a year ago, the waterline that connects to the inlet valve had a crack and was leaking into the basement. Unfortunately, the waterline is part of the filtration system, so I had to replace the whole system. After replacing it, the water dispenser flow rate increased to 4 or 5 times what it was. I think that is most likely the cause of your slow water flow.
@DIYProjectsByDave4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching. That is good information to know. Yes if the filtration system has a clog that would also cause the low flow problem.

Do you have a link or know where to get a new hose that will go from water dispenser to valve? Everything works fine but the water hose has a hole in it so it leaks.
@kmcg1012 жыл бұрын
are there 2 water lines into the fridge because the fridge has both an ice maker AND a water dispenser? My fridge has just an ice maker but the water valve that is leaking has 2 holes for hoses. But I am pretty sure there was only 1 hose coming from the valve to the fridge. I'm assuming I only have to use 1 of those openings to supply my ice maker but I have not found a definite answer.
@DIYProjectsByDave2 жыл бұрын
On the refrigerator in the video there are 2 lines coming out of the valve. One of the lines goes to the ice maker and the other one goes to the water dispenser. If yours only has a water dispenser then I would assume that your refrigerator probably uses a different valve that only has 1 connection for the line going out. You will need to look up the part for your exact model that doesn't have the ice maker. Thank you for watching.

@@DIYProjectsByDave thanks for the help. I bought the same part which has 2 inlets but because I have no water dispenser only 1 inlet is connected. It's working great but still a mystery why GE used the 2 inlet part in my fridge with no water dispenser.

Is it just me? Or is there not much difference between before and after flow in this video? It's great instruction on how to replace the valve, but are you sure that was your problem? How is the flow now, after all this time?
@thinkbrains5 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks for this video. What diagnosis lead you to replacing the valve? I do not get water when I unhook the water line at the bottom (blue thing that connects line from back to the dispenser line), tried new filter, and still no luck. I am determining if it is the assembly at the top vs if it is the valve at the back of refrigerator. Plz share if you have any thoughts. Thanks!
@DIYProjectsByDave5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching. To help diagnose the problem I would start by disconnecting the ice maker and water dispenser line from the valve but leave the supply line and wires connected. Have someone hold the valve in a bucket while you press the button for the water dispenser. If the valve is working it should spray water onto the bucket. Another thing to check is to disconnect the supply line from the valve and have someone hold it in a bucket while you slowly turn the water on. If you get good flow then the filter is working.

My refrigerator stopped dispensing water. After several days on KZbin University, I realized the following: My freezer was still making ice. I changed my water filter to a new filter and purged out any air in the line. My refrigerator side crisper area water reservoir tank was not frozen. I changed my water inlet valve to a new water inlet valve and verified both for continuity prior to installation. Both the old and the new showed nearly identical continuity confirming a working water inlet valve. And still, no water. Unless both the old water inlet valve and the new water inlet valve both have defective mechanical issues. What are the odds? I am suspicious to that being the issue. I removed the main water line and checked water flow. Very solid and good pressure. I then connected the main water line to the new water inlet valve and turned on the water supply. The water ran through the water inlet valve up into the water filter and back down the return line. That is where the water flow ends for dispensing water to drink, but not to the freezer to make ice cubes. So, something is not "turning on" or allowing the water to be dispensed at the push pad. Yet, water is going up to the freezer to make ice. I am baffled.

I may have the same problem. It’s very frustrating.

Are you getting proper voltage to the outlet side valve that goes to the water dispenser? If everything is good down to the inlet of the valve, it's either the inlet blue piece or the outlet. Sounds like you either have a flow restriction from mineral buildup or you aren't getting enough power TO the outlet valve.

I appreciate you posting this video. It made it so easy to replace the leaking valve that I had. Also, I was wondering if you had changed the water filter before you decided to change the valve. The reason I ask is that I had a issue in the past where the water started to run slower out of dispenser and after I changed the filter the water started to come out a lot faster. Just wondering. if you had tried the filter first.
@DIYProjectsByDave8 жыл бұрын
+Stephen Piotrowski Thank you for your comment! We've tried to change the water filter, but that didn't help the slow flow in our case. So, we tried this to change the water valve. That helped a little. But lastly, we just took the water filter out all together, and flow the system until the flow is better. That seems to help.
@justiceyoung49408 жыл бұрын
filter suppose to be changed every 6 months.....i would say yes..lot less headache
@rgruenhaus8 жыл бұрын
Stephen Piotrowski usually the amount of water flowing through the filter determines it's replacement time. I am single and don't get too much water from the fridge. I added a filter inside the fridge but that only filtered drinking water. I wondered why a fridge would need two separate water valves. Probably to make more on the part. Some filters clean so much out of the water that they clog pretty quick. Filters have doubled in price in the last few years.
