DIY How to Replace the Water Filter and Reset Alarm on Samsung Refrigerator

Installation Instructions below:
1. Soak new Filter in water for 15 minutes prior to installing it in your refrigerator to remove air from the carbon block.
2. Grab Paper Towels or a towel, place in fridge under filter knob.
3. Twist the old filter counter-clockwise to unlock (lefty loosey)
4. Pull old filter straight out and discard.
5. Grab new pre soaked filter, water will still be in new filter, will be caught with towel in fridge if it spills out.
6. Insert new filter twist clockwise until locked (righty tighty)
7. Wipe away water that came out
8. Purge system by running two to three gallons of water through your refrigerator’s water dispenser to remove air and loose carbon pieces. The refrigerators water may be cloudy and may sputter until the air is removed.
9. Open fridge door and check for any possible leaks.
10. Reset your “change filter” indicator by pressing the Alarm/Filter Reset button by holding is down for 3 seconds. The water filter indicator should turn off.
If you wish to just turn the Filter Alarm Off simply hold the Alarm Filter Reset button for 3 seconds and it should turn off.

You were the only person on these videos to mention that you need to apply pressure… I appreciate that. At first I thought I lacked the strength to remove it, I thought perhaps it created a seal somehow but by you mentioning applying pressure, I pushed it in prior to turning the knob and it then came out easy peasy!!! Thanks for also including the turning off of the red warning ⚠️!!! Truly appreciate your video!!!

When I was looking up what filter to buy for my Samsung, I saw many, many comments reminding readers that they had to turn off the water supply BEFORE changing the filter or else they'd end up with a huge puddle everywhere because the seal cannot seat if the water isn't turned off--have you ever had this problem? It sounds like much more than what you showed in your video and it sounded like you could walk away while everything looked cleaned up and fine and then later you'd find the lake on your floor. Thank you--this will be my first time to replace mine.

Marsha Balderrama amen. Bought both a Samsung fridge and washing machine and the washer had to be replaced after a year. The fridge ice maker hasn’t worked properly since I’ve had it. I eventually had to turn that whole function off because there were huge popping sounds -like there’s a drive-by in my kitchen. I’m keeping the damn thing because I’m just happy my food stays cold but I’m never touching a Samsung appliance again.
