One tip I have for making templates of complex areas like the top/down/head tube junction is to lay on a couple of layers* of masking tape. Draw on to the tape what seems appropriate. Remove the tape and cut out the template. Now lay it on the non- backing side of your vinyl and stick it down (now it wont move). Cut around your template, remove the tape and voila. The beauty of this if you also need an identical template for the other side of the bike - take your original template and place it on the backing side of the vinyl. Instant mirrored template 😁 * I say a "couple of layers" as the masking tape is less likely to tear when being removed from the frame

Timely video. I'm headed down for a tour in Florida next month. I've been unhappy with the performance of the tape I'm currently using and was worried about the ever-pervasive sand wreaking havoc. I've ordered some of their tape which should arrive Saturday. I know what I'm doing on Sunday.

Nice video Sir! I am wanting to protect some areas on my carbon fiber mountain bike. Your video helps with some great ideas to have a successful install. I hear from your accent that you're from the Midwest or Canada. The word out gave it away. LOL. I am from Michigan so I totally get it. Have a blessed day Salty.

I just found your channel, and loving the content. I wonder, do they have this tape in widths suitable for e-bikes? I'm in love with my light blue Aventon Pace and plan to MTB as well as road ride.
@SaltyBeard_Adventures Жыл бұрын
Just the one width… but it’s worth asking them if they are considering offering a wider package

That bike looks amazing! Thanks for the tutorial. I was actually thinking of just wrapping the main parts of my bike with grip tape. But this looks way sleeker. Btw what’s this bike make and model? Looks like a gravel or adventure bike?

Thanks! The bike is my Kona Libre DL. I have a bike build video on the channel if you're interested.

@@SaltyBeard_Adventures thanks yep found it - love all the cargo-carrying accessories! How are the tires holding up on it? Any recommendations for durable tires without gaining too much friction on normal roads?
@SaltyBeard_Adventures4 ай бұрын
Tires, always the hot debate. I'm a big fan of Specialized Pathfinder Pro for mixed riding, but there so many others that are good.

Any liquid soap.... and very very little is needed.

@@SaltyBeard_Adventures thanks for the fast reply, so I was just done with a couple pieces and there’s some haziness underneath the film. Please tell me that it will go away and if it does, how long does it usually take for it to disappear?

@@jefflodevico3151 - yeah, totally disappears... and you may have some "micro bubbles" - those too will disappear in a few days!

@@SaltyBeard_AdventuresHi again, so I also noticed some sticky residue on top of the film. What’s the safest way to remove it? I looked into goo gone, but it said it’s not safe for plastic.

It worked well, but of course has limited "reach" unless you can fold up the edge a little.

Old man (Winter) bike??
@SaltyBeard_Adventures Жыл бұрын
Is there a question there? No this is not a winter bike. But all my bikes get some sort of wrap, even my winter bike because I usually have either a tool pouch or 1/2 frame bag strapped on. Any grit & grime will start to sand the paint off quickly. All my current bikes are carbon too.

A way more reasonable option than the $150 for a frame kit that I last saw
@SaltyBeard_Adventures Жыл бұрын
Yeah… I hear you. Some can get quite expensive. And this is very reasonable price while still allowing a DIY custom fit. And a great protection film too.

visit www.wilderwildllc.com/ -- and if you feel you need more than what comes with the kit, order a second, and create your own templates.

Would you recommend for carbon frames?
@SaltyBeard_Adventures Жыл бұрын
Yes, all my current frames are carbon. It’s great on all frames, but because this wrap is thicker it’s more suited to MTB, Gravel, and bikepacking bikes were you want good abrasion resistance and impact protection from rocks. If I had a dedicated road bike, I would probably only run thinner protective tape where bags attached.
