As you are tightening the valve to pierce the pex line, I'm screaming at my phone, "No Frank, no! Fortunantly you had the presence of mind to keep tightening once it was pierced. Entertaining video, even if it was not bee related.

I replaced this valve with a sharkbite 1/2 X 1/4 OD bought it at Home Depot. Part# 23337-0000LF Took me 5 minutes to replace this . Good luck. 😀 Thank you for this video, without people comments I will not know ...

Nut compression rod and ferrale the nut goes on first then the ferrale is the small ring that you slide over the outside of the tubing the rod is inserted inside the evenly cut tubing you have the nut and ferrale on insert the tiny rod into the tubing and it will prevent smashing of the tubing ...plastic on plastic is best because otherwise the copper is more malleable and can cut into the tubing.

4dhoneybee saddle valves will start to leak after a couple of years when the rubber starts to dry rot. It’s an insurance claim and bad day waiting to happen.

4dhoneybee cutting out a small half inch section of the copper pipe and putting in a “tee” that connects to the water line to the fridge. They sell kits to do it at most hardware stores.

It's a Phillips. The water line needs to be disconnected before I can replace the relay inside. Good video overall.

I am not a professional plumber, but use of that self piercing valve is not used by any plumbers because the brackets can become loose and rust out over a period of time and then there would be a leak. Use of that type of valve is violation of code in most states. Hire a professional plumber and have them install proper valve to attach that hose. Don't use that valve that comes with a kit.

Hard water plugs up penetration point...and they leak. Not code compliant. Use Sharkbite , or soldered tee/valve instead.

That bracket is is brass because if not as most are not will carode and huge Plummer leak will come

That crazy to pierced a line to get water! Should make a fitting for it > I wouldn't trust it. left one time took a winter VC and the line froze busted to the ice maker> What a mess > So keep that in mind

If anyone is watching this and is a home owner or handy man who doesnt have the pex tool and doesnt want to buy one. if its copper, pex, or cpvc you can buy a sharkbite 1/2" x 1/4" straight or angle stop. That will last much longer than any saddle valve will.

Fyi, these saddle valves can negate your insurance. They are also illegal for plumbers to install. They will also cause a leak, it's a timebomb.

You are smashing and cutting the farrel into the plastic and it squeezes as tight as you keep tightening so maybe not today but for certain when it is most inconvenient you will have one he'll of a fountain..

Definitely NOT code compliant anywhere in the US or Canada. If you have water damage in your kitchen, and your insurance determines that you have a saddle valve installed, your claim will be DENIED, no questions asked.

@ 11:00 to 11:59, you are torquing the pierced connection on the main line. NEVER put a wrench on the compression nut without putting some kind of wrench or pliers on the body of the valve, to keep from twisting the main line connection. You also did a very poor job of cutting the 1/4 inch line off, where it goes to the fridge. That should be a SQUARE cut

That's wrong, on plastic tubing you should use plastic ferrels..in time that brass ferrel will chew through the tubing from the hammering of the water turning off and on

these saddle valves are not allowed by virtually all plumbing codes in the United States. If you have a leak that causes a lot of damage, your insurance company will likely not pay because this thing was installed against the plumbing code. Don't do it this way! 👎

I visited my mother she had a fever I ran to the store to buy some medicine and soup came to her door knocked she started screaming eventually unlocked the door as I attempted to busy it down, there was water from the front door through thee ntryway through the living room the entrance to kitchen through the dining room out the side patio door down the hallway into the front bathroom and through the living room kitchen WALL into the master bedroom and bathroom....the water out of the sliding glass door and under kitchen sink flowed like a river...and I was literally splashing through the ankle deep water to find it it was very loud and yet hidden not under the sink I listened at the walls I couldn't hear it as if it was near so I bent down and caught some light on the surface to see which direction it was flowing from, here behind the built in refrigerator I pulled it away from the wall and it looked like Las Vegas Bellagio Fountains. I shut the water off and opened the doors told my mom to stay in her room my kid brought her medicine to her I rushed home got every BROOM and rags fans and the best squeegee brooms ever..home depot I swept for a good three four hours and ran fans kept back in the bedroom to lay down towels ran home to get shop vac walked through the door and it was flooding again, no one told my older kid about the leak she thought she could just grab some filtered water from the sink nope. Long story longer walls flooring over 15 grand 2 bathrooms living room entire kitchen and countertops all marble and baseboards new tile new carpet new paint new faucets stove refrigerator ..2 months in a extended stay hotel.

Not a great idea to use a saddle valve. They are doomed to fail over time. They are actually against code in some municipalities.

That is correct, expect 5 years before corrosion and leaking. Spend $10 more and use professional kit. See Ask This Old House and see video.

Terrible job this guy doesn't have any idea to how to connect ice maker line the right way to do is with ice maker box the box already have the valve and you can connect cooper pvc cpvc or pex and the box get flush with the wall like the washer huk up

The moment I saw that you were actually going to use a saddle valve I gave it thumbs down. Saddle valves are prohibited by plumbing code for a reason. They always wind up leaking eventually, and cause a lot of problems. Throw out that kit amd install a proper Tee and reducer, or pay a plumber to do it right. The extra money you spend will be nothing compared to the thousands of dollars in water damage that your saddle valve will cause.
