Thank you for this video, I broke one of the stock tuners on my Squier Telecaster and I got a set of Fender non locking tuners and of course the guide dimples were off, this video enabled me to successfully change them, easy to follow and made me confident that I could do this, the d through high e posts seemed really small to the point were you couldn't wind more than once but thankfully it worked, great video and thanks again🙂

I have had good luck installing Hipshot locking tuners on a few guitars. Because they come with the "universal mounting plates" they go on easily without the need to drill additional holes. Or fill holes.

I see that's a Squire .As Im upgrading the tuners on my Fender Jaguar will they drop straight in? Also is the white on the back of the locking tuners meant to be removed or is it part of the design?May sound dumb but hard to tell

They should drop in but I always double check the specs. The white is part of the design

The sad part of all this is, the guitar would have been better off with a nut replacement, rather than locking tuners and all that work. Tuning issues are the nut, playability issues are the nut. A custom cut nut, with the correct string hight , using good files. Make both tuning and playing better. Locking tuners just add weight to the headstock, and a little weight on the headstock is all it takes to make a neck diver. I have this conversation a lot. Before work starts. What I don’t have afterwards is unhappy clients. The internet lied to you about needing locking tuners. Pressed vintage tuners work perfectly if the nut is cut correctly.
@ManotickGuitarTech27 күн бұрын
a well fitted nut is one of the most important things on your guitar, I agree. Vintage style tuners are my preference over locking tuners, as well.
@davidlacroix67692 жыл бұрын
You think someone at Fender would have had the smarts to design the new locking tuners with the bump for the indents in the same locations as the original tuners. It shouldn’t have been that hard for someone on their design team to make it happen.

My Tele clone has locking tuners on it already but I’m changing strings some time next week when they arrive, I’ve gone to Slinky’s the same as Angus uses. After seeing your other video I ordered what was advertised as a lefty tremolo but I suspect it isn’t, and I’m going to have to modify it to work for me, which I can do, it’s only metal, so I’ll sort it. I’m thinking however I’ll use it on another Tele I’m planning on building, as a bit of a tester, it’s in a relic style so if a tremolo looks a bit weird, it’s not going to matter much, and if I like it, I’ll buy a Bixby lefty for my super Tele I’m planning to build, and looking at parts for now. So lots of fun.

That's the stupidest reasoning I've ever heard. Would you just get a whole new vehicle bc you replaced the tires on the one you currently have? It's quite possible there isn't a guitar that comes exactly as a person wants it. I've replaced many parts on my strat, they're built to be customized by the user.
