You rock, i'm a retired school teacher and so I am doing some projects around my home. You motivated me. I have a table in my carport that i've just sanded. You gave me a glimpse of what I am to do. For that I thank you! I'm amazed that you could do all that work in sixteen hours... It looked like a lot more work than that. Honestly i'm a little afraid. Thank you for your demonstration. I bet you are a rockstar teacher as well!
@lindajohnson10603 жыл бұрын
Great job! A little hint: I do 2 coats of BIN shellac primer when painting white. That second coat does amazing and will cut down on coats of white. Also I have the store add 65 drops of black to a "gallon" (15 drops to a quart) as the BIN has a yellow cast and the light grey (after adding the black) makes the white paint brighter!
@FurnitureFlippingTeacher3 жыл бұрын
I realized I should have done two coats of primer after I did the first coat of paint! I do actually have some gray primer as well, but I usually use that if I’m gonna go for a darker color. Thanks for watching!

I did a table and chairs like this for my sister about five years ago. I also used wipe on poly. I have to say that she was not happy with how the finish on the table top and chair seats showed wear. Of course, that meant that she was unhappy with me, as well. I did a dining set and chairs for myself about ten years ago and used brush on poly. I have been quite satisfied with how my set has worn. So, I went back and redid her set with brush on poly. She is now happy with her dining set. That means that she is now happy with me again. That is entirely understandable, because like you......... I am quite charming and irresistible!

I've been stripping, building and refinishing furniture for over 20 years and wanted to just offer some friendly advise. It's very important to never sand wood to remove a finish in preparation for stain. It's great if you're painting, but sanding, especially with an 80 grit paper scars the wood, especially when applying pressure. This is why your table top came out uneven and with some darker spots. I used to make this same mistake. The best option is to use a furniture stripper, then a 220 or higher paper by hand to prepare the wood without scarring it, without applying pressure. Wipe on poly is my favorite finish, but not ideal for a table, it will wear away with time. To save time you can purchase a stain with a poly in it.
@rhondadavis14832 жыл бұрын
Thanks Tammy for all these tips with your experience. I also use a stripper for the ones I’m going to stain. I only sand after I’ve stripped it. You’ve confirmed what I’ve been doing for a couple years. And def a stain with poly. Much easier

I used one of those orbital B&D sanders on a hardwood bedroom floor, then refinished with an oil base poly. It wasn't perfect, the wood could have used a real floor sander, but it was 500% better than what I started with. I simply attached it to my shop vac which worked out pretty darn good even though I had to tape the intersection of vac hose and sander handle.
