You rock, i'm a retired school teacher and so I am doing some projects around my home. You motivated me. I have a table in my carport that i've just sanded. You gave me a glimpse of what I am to do. For that I thank you! I'm amazed that you could do all that work in sixteen hours... It looked like a lot more work than that. Honestly i'm a little afraid. Thank you for your demonstration. I bet you are a rockstar teacher as well!

Great job! A little hint: I do 2 coats of BIN shellac primer when painting white. That second coat does amazing and will cut down on coats of white. Also I have the store add 65 drops of black to a "gallon" (15 drops to a quart) as the BIN has a yellow cast and the light grey (after adding the black) makes the white paint brighter!
@FurnitureFlippingTeacher
@FurnitureFlippingTeacher 3 жыл бұрын
I realized I should have done two coats of primer after I did the first coat of paint! I do actually have some gray primer as well, but I usually use that if I’m gonna go for a darker color. Thanks for watching!

You have inspired me!! I had a counter-high square dining room table, but our family has outgrown it so I sold it on marketplace and found a regular round table with a leaf on marketplace. I wasn't going to redo it, but after watching this flip as well as a Beyond Paint flip, I am gonna do it!! I've purchased the paint and am waiting for it to come in. On another note, I am a retired teacher of 30 years. Proud of you for finding a way to paying off your student loans and finding a new passion in the process. You go girl!!

I did a table and chairs like this for my sister about five years ago. I also used wipe on poly. I have to say that she was not happy with how the finish on the table top and chair seats showed wear. Of course, that meant that she was unhappy with me, as well. I did a dining set and chairs for myself about ten years ago and used brush on poly. I have been quite satisfied with how my set has worn. So, I went back and redid her set with brush on poly. She is now happy with her dining set. That means that she is now happy with me again. That is entirely understandable, because like you......... I am quite charming and irresistible!

I just scored a solid oak dining set on marketplace. I'm going to do this same farmhouse style (in the spring as its below freezing now) so it goes with our home. What I learned - prep prep prep, use a primer, and buy a sprayer. I wasn't clear on how your water bottle was helpful during your process. It turned out beautiful!

It must be so difficult to figure out how long everything will take to do!! Sixteen hours sounds like a lot but it really isn't much for an 8-piece set that includes big pieces. It was exciting to hear you mention summer, I can't wait to see what you have in store for us when school is out, but please also remember to take time to rest & relax! It's so easy to overwork & get burned out when we work for ourselves.

Great ending, personally I would invest in a spray gun for painting purposes and a quick tip on color finish when staining, if you hit a zone of this or that always mix both colors at a 50/50 ratio it usually comes out where you want it.

Maybe next time you could say, with a job like this the cost will be between 500- $600 depending on your time invested. That way if you find it takes longer, you're not undercutting yourself. Anyway I am truly impressed, and I can see how weary you are- it was a large project for you, so I hope you can have a few days rest before then next flip? Good on you for your beautiful handiwork. I've been stripping, building and refinishing furniture for over 20 years and wanted to just offer some friendly advise. It's very important to never sand wood to remove a finish in preparation for stain. It's great if you're painting, but sanding, especially with an 80 grit paper scars the wood, especially when applying pressure. This is why your table top came out uneven and with some darker spots. I used to make this same mistake. The best option is to use a furniture stripper, then a 220 or higher paper by hand to prepare the wood without scarring it, without applying pressure. Wipe on poly is my favorite finish, but not ideal for a table, it will wear away with time. To save time you can purchase a stain with a poly in it.
@rhondadavis1483
@rhondadavis1483 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Tammy for all these tips with your experience. I also use a stripper for the ones I’m going to stain. I only sand after I’ve stripped it. You’ve confirmed what I’ve been doing for a couple years. And def a stain with poly. Much easier

Beautiful job and I know how much work this was! I've done a lot of refinishing over the last 40 years. I generally use oil base paint and stains for durability on high use furniture.

Looks great! I'm hoping to do my own dining room table in the same way. I like the clean look (not distressed) and will also do a darker stain, but this video definitely gives me a more realistic idea of how long it will actually take. Love watching your channel, keep up the outstanding work! I'm learning so much!

Great Work! Man im doing my own dining room table now and I am STUCK! I want the chairs and skirt of the table white like you are doing BUTTTT! I want to use something to highlight the crevasses and still keep the paint looking white... I want to antique it with something that does not darken the entire piece... Lol so I think you did an amazing job.... You have encouraged me to push harder and get it done... Thank you for sharing have a blessed day 💜

I’ve been procrastinating on starting a dinner set. You got me inspired and now I’ll tackle the one I have been neglecting for months! Great job! Love the stain, everything. Oh, and I just bought a roller seat like yours 😂

Wow - a lot of hours but it looks fabulous. I'm jealous of your sander as sadly they aren't sold down under (yet)! Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this but don't forget you can also mix your stains together to get the exact colour you want. Thank you for sharing!

This set looks fantastic! I'm sure they'll love it. I did a table and 4 chairs last fall. I swore that I'd never do another unless I had a sprayer. Those spindles were a pain!

I was going to “start small” with a couple of chairs. I noticed nobody was doing chairs... I asked a couple of KZbinrs and decided that chairs aren’t “small” LOL

I used one of those orbital B&D sanders on a hardwood bedroom floor, then refinished with an oil base poly. It wasn't perfect, the wood could have used a real floor sander, but it was 500% better than what I started with. I simply attached it to my shop vac which worked out pretty darn good even though I had to tape the intersection of vac hose and sander handle.
