Wondefull ! I am looking to make a lap steel and it is very informative. The way you design the headstock is fine. Greatings from France!

thanks. Good luck with your build. Glad you find the video helpful...my sense is that talking about the things I needed to figure out for my first lapsteel build are helpful to others starting from the same place.

Did you ay the strings ae 10mm off the neck? Thats almost a centimeter, lol half an inch! I knew they have to be high but never thought half an inch would be normal. My guitars action has to be measured in nanometers (just kiddin). Wow! That is a great design. Good guitar shapes dont come around so often, the last cool shapes were the Flying V nd Explorer and those are some of the first solid body guitars. I really like it and will have to steal it and make my own before you Trademark it. Had Bo Didley not been so lazy....Very Cool. You should Trademark that shape

Yes, 10mm off the fretboard for this. I think it's mostly about playing comfort on the right hand...left hand won't care much about the action since you're not trying to press anything down to a fret. Thanks for the enthusiasm about the shape...I'm pretty sure I'd spend more money setting up and defending a trademark than I'd ever earn. Consider it a contribution to the public domain :)

Very cool build Jason! (My name, too. 😉) I'm snooping around for ideas to build one myself, and you've got some great ideas going on there! But, a big word of caution: please, please, please don't wear gloves when running a drill press!! High torque spinny things and gloves DON'T mix! If the drill grabs, and your glove gets caught, you're in for a world of hurt. I have a co-worker missing a good portion of his index finger from this same operation. Other folks have been completely degloved. (Not the one you put on.) Just go slow, be careful. It's counterintuitive, but it's real. Cheers to a great project!

More or less agree. I usually don't.....but balance of risks. When I was working that metal it was throwing off sharps. Maybe there are ways/tools that would throw off less shrapnel?

Good build. Your bar technique needs major improvement. Nice video sharing details.
