Wanted to add my Thank you to the author of this video. I've been looking for a simple but reliable lawnmower blade sharpening fixture that I could use my hand grinder with and this certainly fit the bill. The horizontal design was exactly what i was looking for so I could easily access the grinder's on/off switch as well as keep everything in a low profile for storage. I proceeded to build the part that supports the grinder first so I could make any height and width modifications as needed for my brand of grinder. I then built the 30-degree angle section that supports the blade with a little large base so I could adjust it to fit exactly on the centerline of my particular grinding disk. My only addition was a 1.5" thick board in the rear to give me a solid place to put a 6" clamp to hold fixture this to my worktable. Finished the whole fixture in less than 90 min with your helpful photos and prints. Came out great. Finished sharpening my (4) lawnmower blades in no time. Nice Work!

@@BumBee22 I mounted my vintage but reliable 12-yr old Ryobi hand grinder to your Sharpening fixture I made. The handle holes on my Ryobi are drilled at an angle which required a little finesse to drill the bolt hole to secure the front of the grinder at a level position but manageable. I positioned the blade back support about 1/16" from the face of a 4-1/2" dia. 60-grit grinding flap disc.

Good to hear from someone from my old world. Made drawings manually at the start then onto CADD systems. I am retired as well. As a new owner of a twin blade riding lawn mower, I looked into buying a Lawn Mower Blade Sharpener. The ones I saw on the market were too complicated, bulky and expensive. Here we are, glad to share what I came up with.

I just finished building mine with a couple of necessary changes . First off my grinder when bolted down didn't lie perfectly flat and I couldn't find a flap wheel that was flat either . So I changed the angle of the cut so I could get the 30 degrees that I needed and it works just fine . I needed to buy the grinding wheel , other than that it was for free as I had the material needed for the build . Thanks for a great idea and sharing .

What did you do to stop the grinder from rotating on the 5/16 mounting bolt?
@hc71903 жыл бұрын
@@BumBee22 I found a metric bolt at tractor supply that fit my grinder but when tightened down it didn't lie flat so that is why I had to make an adjustment to the angles . To keep the grinder from turning I put two wooden stops at the end of the handle . I have an old toro wheel horse mower also and the angles for that were way different than for the xmart . I made a set up for that too and use the same base . Works Great

@@hc7190 People are saying the blades are not suppose to be sharp like a knife cuz the blade get dull faster. I know when I brought my blades to a dealer, the blades didn't come sharp. Enough to cut the grass well though. Has anyone tried sharp blades and sharp blades using a file but not very sharp. Any differences as to how long the blades stay sharp.

You'll have to freeze frame and use the snipping tool to capture the image, then print it, or freeze frame and make sketches. or, here is a shortcut: %windir%\system32\SnippingTool.exe Copy and paste to your pc screen and execute it. I use this a lot.

For those of us making to fit a different grinder, it would be helpful to know the finished distance from the flap pad to the chamfer on the bench piece.
@BumBee22 Жыл бұрын
1.Use a Flap Pad that has a flat grinding surface. A T27 2.Make this that the Flap Pad is not grinding the Blade support piece. 3. You have to make adjustments so the grinder you're using will work.

Great jig. Why do you have two different positions for the grinder.
@BumBee223 жыл бұрын
This allows whom ever decides to make one, they will have a choice of horizontally mounted grinder or a vertically mounted grinder using the same base.
@hc71903 жыл бұрын
Looking at the design further the only thing that worries me is the wheel pulling the blade down and jamming it between the jig and wheel and possibly throwing up the other end . I do realize there is very little space for it to be able to do that . Have you ever experienced that feeling while sharpening your blades ?
@BumBee223 жыл бұрын
No, and I have not heard of anyone have the experience you mentioned. I don't think it will get jammed unless the blade is intentionally jammed in. I think it will just stop the disc from turning.

You showed the first drawing as an overall drawing and we can stop and make a screen shot. After that, you're constantly moving around the other drawings and that can't be done. Do you have drawings available to download or for sale? If any of the viewers who were successful can make them available. it would help. Thanks.

You have to the by far have the best and appears the easiest to fabricate a Lawn Mower Blade Sharpening Jig that uses a angle grinder (Blueprints /Schematics for measurements.) I’m asking for your permission to use your blueprints/schematic in this video? To make my own lawn mower blade sharpening jig?I will never duplicate your Blueprints/Schematics and or try to sell copies or make any videos and play them on any social platforms. I would like to use the blueprint/schematic that is in this video for a one time only private use for myself. I’ve over 20 blades for my riding lawnmower that are dull but not worn out. I want to be able to sharpen them properly. Your Angle Grinder Lawn Mower Sharpening Jig. Is just what I need. I do know to use a flap disc on one of my angle grinders and i always wear safety glasses , gloves and a mask whenever I’m grinding anything.
