Great job on the gifts. It's obvious you care a lot about family and friendship. I just got into cnc woodwork in a small way so I appreciate seeing some good ideas. One thing I can't go on without mentioning though, Christmas IS still a religious holiday to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Look forward to seeing more of your projects.

Lovely build! Bee's wax is my go-to for release. It will never fail you, easy to get, easy to melt on a small coil heater and brushes on easy. You may want to have some silicone coaster molds sitting at the ready to simply poor excess resin in as well.

Just a little help with clamping. Those aluminum triangles that came with the clamps should be used. The plastic clamp should be putting pretty close to even pressure on the workpiece and the triangle. Also, some good double sided tape is worth the purchase. I rarely ever use the actual clamps.

Ya haha, I realized that the other day when I was browsing the inventables store and they showed a picture. I had a "Ohhhhh that's what those are for!" moment. Appreciate the info man, I'll be sure to use them next time!

Carpet tape is your friend when CNCing. I've had many clamps fail while cutting, but the tape has always held. Just remember to account for the added thickness when setting workspace parameters. Great looking project.

Awesome idea with the led back lit signs, I'm going to have to snag this. Also try double stick tape under your material to give a little more reinforcement to your project and keep it from sliding on the cut deck.

Amazing such a great looking project. One word of caution from someone who worked for a lighting manufacturer if you do this again try and avoid using CA glue on the LED strips as the gases given off by it can cloud the clear plastic.
@ZacBuilds
@ZacBuilds 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip James! I was a bit worried about that, but I think I got lucky on these ones and the glue, nor the accelerator, affected the clear plastic. But definitely something to keep in mind for the future!
@jamesduffin9417
@jamesduffin9417 2 жыл бұрын
@@ZacBuilds it doesn’t happen with all CA glues but most of them can effect plastic. VHB tape and clear silicon caulk are good choices used in industry. Glad it worked out for you! Definitely inspired to make something similar! But without a CNC.

Nice vid, enjoyed it. Couple of thoughts. For the melamine sticking, try Smooth-on mold release (spray 200 or brush-on 205). Not familiar w your brand resin, so obviously try on small test piece first. For resin dams, get some low-sulphur clay (Reynolds sells it too), go w low sulphur in case you ever want to play w platinum silicones. If you haven’t, you might want to check out Rubio or Osmo for finishing. Which one depends on your use preference (application differ a bit between the two) and the desired sheen. They may seem pricey for the container sizes, but a little goes a very long way. Lastly, yep that Dewalt is a great planer in its price price range. Got one after our Hitachi P12R bit the dust after many years. Have had the Dewalt for several years. If you want great planing surface finishes without tear out (but you’ll sacrifice depth of cut per pass), invest In a Shelix head. Awesome awesome upgrade if you deal with figured or chattery woods. Also helps minimize sanding (can go straight to higher grits). This is doubly good if you use Osmo/Rubio as the recommended sanding is only to lower mid grits (varies by lumber species as well, so trial and error for your desired results). As always, just sharing. nothing more, nothing less. Keep the vids up and have a good’un.

Question from someone who's only done small pours: If you're worried about the epoxy not filling to the top, would flipping the pieces over and filling from the back help?
@ZacBuilds

Ya, that's definitely an option too. Just keep in mind if you have any lettering or anything like that that you set it all up so its still the right way around when you're done.

Good video, but arrogant comment at the beginning. Christmas is and will always be the celebration of Jesus’ birth. Whether or not people want to participate in that celebration is up to them. Agree that you never need an excuse to do something nice for your fellow man or woman.

Years ago Mac Davis had a Christmas Special where Christmas was replaced with a mandatory Mass Consumption Day and the true meaning of Christmas was forgotten as the celebration of the birth of Christ Jesus. Please don't fall into that trap like the manufacturers of mass consumables want you too. The last time I felt the true meaning of Christmas was in South India on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day while travelling and staying on a house boat. We were invited into the owners home for Christmas Eve Dinner and later Christmas Day breakfast. They had a nativity scene outside of their home and at midnight when we went back to the houseboat to sleep the baby Jesus was still missing but at breakfast time the nativity was complete with the baby Jesus present. A simple celebration of the true meaning of Christmas as the birth of Christ and a time of thanksgiving amongst those who know the true meaning of the Christ - Mas.

Nah. It's not even a christian holiday, originally. It's just christianity piggybacking on pagan celebrations which is not the only time they ever did that. Let christianity die a dignified death please.
