I followed your design for my kayak and put on two boards, needed them for the gusty winds on our lakes here. Working great so far!

Hi Larz, build the Eureka too. Never have enough boats, right? :-)

You could improve the leeboard design adding more width to the lower part or add more length to it! It will reduce side drift significantly ! But You should add a support wood block ether on the leeboard itself or on the outer boat hull to reduce forces on the moving axle part of the board!

Thanks for the thoughts.

You have a great idea, just getting ready to start on a sailing canoe. I see some folks placing two lee boards instead of one, could you tell me the difference? thank you for taking the time on demonstrating your set up.

Go for it! I haven't seen much of a difference but I needed to make mine bigger. It wasn't deep enough for my liking. Good luck.

Good day, like your video. I am in New Zealand and just built a homemade trimaran, dinghy size. I would like to add you Leeboard design. Could I please just ask what the width of your board is approximately and the depth length underwater when the board is in the vertical position. From that I can calculate the whole length for my Tri. I currently have a centreboard which clutters up the main hull and if a Leeboard works I will remove the centreboard. Thanks. Phil

I had double leeboards on mine and I discovered that Leeboard means Lee board. Use the one on the LEE. The other one can actually go on undergo a lot of strain and break which happened to me when I was being towed in, and not very fast even. It snapped a half inch piece of plywood sounding like a very large bore shotgun. Very scary.

Ouch, did you duck? ;-)

Thanks for your video. I see you just have a leeboard only on the port side. You dont need one on the starboard side because you are running , not tacking, correct? I'm making a similar set-up for my 8 ft dinghy.

Wrong side. It should be on the Starboard side. That's why it's called starBOARD. The side without a board is the side to go against the pier, otherwise known as the PORT side.

Thanks for you input. I've seen it one either side. My rig is designed to be able to place a leeboard on both sides. This was my maiden voyage and I only had one made by then.
