I like how you explain things, and then show the process. Simon's recommendations are spot-on as always 🙂

He's really the one running the show anyway.

Thanks! I really notice him growing up when he hasn't been in a video for awhile, and then I'm just like wait, who's this kid giving me orders?

Conan, you need to make a work table or use a piece of plywood and some sawhorses. It’s so much easier on the back and knees. Trust me, you’ll be glad you did later in life

Well, part of the problem is that my basement workshop needs a total remodel. I just don't really have the room down there for what I'm trying to do these days. So what I should do is demolish my garage and replace it with a great big workshop/garage! But you know, money, time, etcetera.

You know, when you really get rolling on a project it's sometimes surprising how quickly you can finish it!

Thanks! I've had a bit of practice by this point, lol! But I should probably say that part of it is that I've gotten better at using SketchUp in my process, so things tend to fit together better when I make a bit more modular like this.

Yeah, for a second I thought I was going to ruin everything. I probably should've just gotten someone to lend a hand.

10:08, so you must have some sort of lip there? To help you hold it up somehow?

The angle iron of the chassis extends an inch or so past the edge of the deck, and that's what I let the wall rest on while I attached it to the chassis boards.

MAN,GOT TO GIVE IT TO YOU ON THE WALLS. MY QUESTION IS IF YOU TAKE THE TALL CABINETS OUT WHAT WILL SUPPORT THE ROOF? I KNOW YOU ADDED THE EXTRA SIDE CABINETS . GOT THAT PART.
@TrailerTrashtoTreasure
@TrailerTrashtoTreasure Жыл бұрын
Well, the walls of course support the roof somewhat, but the shape of the roof also supports itself. When you flex a panel in one direction it becomes more resistant to bending in the perpendicular direction. The flatter parts of the roof aren't going to support much weight though, so you wouldn't want to try to put a rooftop ac up there (but I wouldn't really recommend that even with floor to ceiling cabinets there). You can also add some aluminum c-channel to the ceiling joists if you're especially concerned about it, but I think that's generally unnecessary.

@@TrailerTrashtoTreasure GOT IT. YEA, WE REALLY DON'T LIKE TO PUT ANTHING ON OUR TRAILER ROOF. THE ALUMINUM C CHANNEL WOULD WORK. DID NOT KNOW ABOUT THE FLEX DIRECTION PANEL. SOUNDS LIKE PHYSICS TO US.

To illustrate this, hold a piece of paper by one edge and try to hold it straight out from you. It'll just droop immediately, right? Now start to curve that same piece of paper and at some point it'll hold its own weight and stand straight out. Pretty neat how they designed these campers.

Are you using 3/4” plywood for the framing, 1/2” for the panels in between and 1/4” for the front facing?
@TrailerTrashtoTreasure
@TrailerTrashtoTreasure Жыл бұрын
Yes exactly, Jamie! I built the framing for the cabinets from leftover 3/4" ply from the floor, but the larger panels perpendicular to the walls are 1/2" (although they could be 3/4" as well if you wanted), and then the 1/4" facing is applied as one large piece to help square everything up.

Are the walls resting on a metal brace, or is it on a jack until the wall is screwed on?
@TrailerTrashtoTreasure
@TrailerTrashtoTreasure 2 ай бұрын
The angle iron that runs perpendicular to the frame c-channel extends about an inch past the edges of the floor, so that's what it's resting on.

I just stumbled on this project, and was wondering what software you use to do the drawing up like you showed in the beginning? Thanks, Will.

Hey, Will! I use the free version of SketchUp that runs in your browser. I made a video about it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/foHPZHemp82mmbM

@@TrailerTrashtoTreasure Thanks man. I know Sketch up from years back, so this makes sense, lol. Now I'm gonna think more about my own trailer, a 197-something Scamper.
