DIY: LOUIS VUITTON KEEPALL 50 MAKEOVER (How to Dye Vachetta)

Been admiring Macassar keepall in awhile, instead of getting one, decided to dye my Monogram Keepall 50 instead. So happy how it turned out. It's alot of work but totally worth a try. Enjoy!

Beautiful job! I've done a few of these myself- just a friendly suggestion: if you don't want the shine of the Resoline- use a small clean cotton cloth rag ( old clean tee shirt works great) and rub it onto the leather pieces. It dries to a beautiful satin finish without the super- shiny look. Either way - when using Fiebings- you must SEAL the leather after painting. Once dried you'll find it doesn't rub off- no cracking or peeling of paint. Again- just my suggestions. Thanks!!

Resolene is the sealant she used after dyeing and using just one coat works well because the more coats you use the shinier it will get.

Just be aware that there are two ways of sealing this. Resolene and leather sheen. Both are made by Fiebings. The resolene is typically better for shiny projects. Some people have experienced colour transfer with the resolene which is why leather sheen would be better for this project.

The end product was really good. BUT I wouldn't paint a pretty new and in excellent condition Vachetta to black. Not a single stain or oxidation on that vachetta leather, would have bought an old Keepall instead, and enjoy the natural vachetta for years. You would have two Keepall to enjoy, old vachetta dyed black and new natural vachetta!

definitely! As you can see, my old keepall had a lot of water marks. No regrets at all, I'm using it much more that it's black handle and all.

actually the piping was the easiest to do coz it has little vachetta to work with plus you wont even notice if u make a mess on the piping... 😂 harder to work on more vachetta coz takes longer to dry and you need to make sure the amount of paint is even 😅thanks!!
