I’m deep in the Colorado Rockies, where I show you how to make your own Colorado walking stick or any walking stick, doesn’t have to be from Colorado ! Also I will show you how I add a wrapped para cord grip !

@@IndianHemlock you ever think about treating the wood for longevity?
@IndianHemlock

Good point Jacob !! Yes I did mention towards the end of the video about giving it a coat of polyurethane to keep it looking the same as when you first make it and would help it to last many years ! Thanks

An Arizona walking stick is just a rattle snake yanked out straight and used like that. (Don't forget to feed it occasionally or it gets cranky and difficult to use)

Thanks for this. Great video! I am new to walking stick making. I was wondering do you think that tree limbs or saplings would make a better first Walking stick project? I really appreciate any feedback you have. I am new to your KZbin channel but really like it

Hello Bradley, and thank you for stopping by !! You know, in my opinion there is no right or wrong when making a walking stick ! I am by no means an expert on any of it. The important thing is that your making something yourself by hand that you can appreciate and be proud of and use and enjoy !! The one I made was from a young sapling that just died off in the past few years and wasn’t green or sappy. Just use your imagination and the possibilities are endless. You could even make one out of a branch or sapling that is twisted or curved that would give it character. Glad that you enjoyed the video, hope that I helped some ! Good luck and have fun with it !! Appreciate you watching and welcome to the channel !! Take care 👍🏼😃

A couple tips, although you don’t need really need to do anything else. To make the end of your paracord stiff enough to poke through the hole, squirt some Duco Cement on the end spread the Duco Cement on as far as you need. Depending on what you need, you don’t really need to cut off the stiffenened end. It’s usually flexible enough to lay in position. And particularly if you put a couple (or more) coats of varnish (or shellac, or polyurethane varnish or the like on the cord. That will strengthen the cord and help hold it in place. You could put a rubber cane tip on the bottom end OR get a short run of copper conduit or copper water pipe. Shave the bottom end of the walking stick and shove on and epoxy in a cut-off end of the tubing.

Good on ya for teaching how to search out for salvagable materials out in the wild. Point of caution though that I want to mention for avalanche slide harvesting: beware of half fallen trees leaning against live ones or trees with loose or damaged roots/ trunks that can easily fall. Those are called " Widow makers" for a good reason, and sometimes you find them in old growth sections of evergreen forest like in the video. If you see em, stay a respectful distance from them and do your best to let the forrstry service know about their general location.
