Yes, very nicely done and probably quite adequate for the task. If I make one myself, I'll try to run the wood pieces through a surface planer to make sure they're flat, smooth and all the same dimensions. Also, I'd coat each wood piece individually with several coats of boiled linseed oil to protect the wood from moisture and excessive swelling. Even with very strong bands, moisture can cause significant and uneven expansion in the wood over the long term. And yes, it is best to NOT glue the wood into a monolithic block for this purpose. Banding is perfect. Alternatively, steel pallet bands can be employed with similar results, but would probably take 3-4 bands for adequate support depending on how hard you're going to hit the work piece on the anvil.

I kept my eye out for a big old chunk of maple trunk for my uncles 80 lb antique anvil which I finally came across after over a year about 5 years ago snd left me tell to the patina on that beauty is awesome and is the conversation piece of my shop

cool Anvil stand. I made mine out of two-by-fours glued together with liquid nail and screw together on each layer laying flat 3 foot One Direction 2 foot the next direction. They are heavy and have been in use for 15 years

Nicely done. Couple of thoughts - the end grain is not going to hold those spikes well if you really use the anvil regularly. I think you should strap the anvil. Second, the clamps are going to catch a leg when you walk by - consider either making a smooth cover or redesigning the straps to make them less likely to catch something.

Be hard to get in over the top of that anvil to do a proper job with blacksmithing. Also the anvil needs to be bolted down so it has no bounce in it. I would have personally ran all the timber through a jointer to get a tighter fit as well.

Its funny. I recently bought an anvil and thought of this video. I had a bunch of fence posts laying around but they were remnants of other projects and they were too short to use standing straight up. So i cut them to 12inches and laid them on their side instead. Still works.

Sehr schöne Arbeit! So einen ähnlichen Ständer werde ich demnächst aus 9 Kanthölzern machen, für einen kleinen Amboss aus einem Bahngleis ;) Wenn Du das Kippeln des Amboss verhindern willst, hol dir aus einem Baumarkt eine Antirutschmatte für Waschmaschinen - die kannst Du mit einem Cuttermesser auf Maß schneiden und zwischen Amboss und Ständer legen. Der Amboss kippelt nicht mehr und der Schall beim schmieden wird etwas gedämmt! ;)

Ich habe gestern einen Amboss- Untersatz nach demselben Prinzip gebaut, nur hatte ich leider keine so schöne Kappsäge und musste es mit Hand sägen, daher muss ich noch ein wenig die Flächen nachschleifen, sie sind nicht so schön glatt. :/ Warum hast du an die enden vom Flachstahl ein weiteres Stück Flachstahl geschweißt? Toller Untersatz, VG, Edgar

I believe he welded the small pieces of steel on the ends of the straps in order to provide space for the heads of the bolts when he tightened the straps. If he were to weld the nuts directly to the straps, he would not be able to get the socket on the bolt head.

if you have a router, then you can also make cavity (engrave) of shape of anvil bottom. Then you will don't need nails for keep fix.

feines teil, wirkt recht massiv. :) bist du zufrieden mit der kappsäge? brauch ne neue, mein favorit war bisher die bosch GCM 12 SDE wegen der enormen schnitthöhe. dewalt hatte ich gar nicht so richtig auf dem schirm. grüße und weiter so!

If you place it outside then pour engine oil all over it. This will preserve the wood for a long time.

what you did was well done but the design doesn't make much sense, you wasted a lot of wood when a log would have been fine , you didnt fully pin the anvil down , its too low down for much metal work and the best thing for it would for it to be on a proper stand bolted to the floor
