I'm trying soooo hard to get over my bug squeamishness thanks to you and your bug adventures. I think the biggest difference between bugs and other animal meat is that I find bugs to be very repulsive when they're alive, unlike chickens and fish and things, which are beautiful in their own ways while alive, at least to me. I'm also very hesitant because they're eaten whole and my brain always defaults to "what if there's still bug poo inside?" :c which is extremely unappetizing to me lol. I'm trying though! I imagine they're so much better for the environment and I know they're perfectly good for you.

During my middle school years, I had an overnight field trip where I was able to get to purchase a lollipop with a cricket inside. I did not really taste anything but the flavor of the lollipop when I had pieces of the cricket. I think mealworms and crickets have flavor on their own, but mixed with something else, you don't get to experience their natural flavor where it is there in your taste buds.

Heya Emmy, just throwing out some ideas to (maybe) achieve a round lollipop - 1) Paper? Cupcake Holders: Dump worms and crushed ranchers in, melt till soft, then stick the stick in while using the holders' creases/folds to hold the stick in place 2) Aluminium Foil: Use ring mould to shape foil, ensure there's a little gap for the stick to fit (don't forget to leave some foil below it to stop any leaking), dump everything in and you're good I guess P.S: I'm no professional, just hoping this might help! Sorry my descriptions are bad. >

@gracthedestroyer92536 жыл бұрын
Just a repost of what I put on the last days, it’s advice Emmy should really see! I never thought of mealworms as good for anything other than my reptiles lol! You’ll want to really be careful tho and I can see a couple things to improve upon. Keeping them on oats isn’t the best, it’s better for you to keep them on an organic potting soil (without fertilizer) so that they’ll eat the vegetables and not the grain (more nutritious for you and your animals that wheat bran!) and also it’ll prevent mold and you do NOT want mold in your colonies. I wouldn’t want you or your chickens getting sick! I used to have a small mealworm farm for my leopard geckos and turtles before I moved on to more nutritious bugs for them, but I just used Tupperware. Dubia roaches are a lot easier to breed and more nutritious for the reptiles but I bet there’s a lot less recipes to use them in lol!
