Hey guys, with nonstop builds over the past year, my shop has become a disaster zone. So I've decided to make 2019 the year of shop projects and shop organization! My first shop furniture this year is this mobile drill press stand with lots of storage. But what makes it unique is that it allows the drill press base to sit underneath the top, which helps to free up lots of work surface on top. It also has a pull out platform for writing, put smaller workpieces on, or whatever your heart wants.

Very nice build! Just a suggestion. When I build something with full extension slides I like to plan ahead with a story pole marking the location of the slides on cabinet sides and drawer sides. Then I install the slides on the cabinet sides before assembly. John Jensen from British Columbia

I added a base on bottom with a lift Caster system inside, I don't like to have drawers that low to the floor. I made the cabinet larger and I like to have the top drawers I and a half inch so when I put a ruler or something in there I'm not digging down through things to find what I want. Thank you for inspiring a little different project.

I very much like your drill press stand. I recently inherited a very nice drill press similar to yours and am looking at videos to find a suitable stand for it. So far your looks like a winner. There is one change I will make for the writing shelf. The shelf as compared to your will be upside down and will not have the interior supports. This way the writing table and pencil can be left in the shallow draw. This way the writing pad can be quickly viewed and then moved out of the way to use the drill.

Nice well built stand! Another workaround for your slide out shelf problem would’ve been just to reverse the vertical piece to the right side of the opening then you would’ve cleared the caster bolts that way. Who cares if the opening was on the other side it still works fine.

Great work. A suggestion about the drawer fronts. Once you put them in place, put two wood screws through the holes for the handle. This will hold the drawer front in place. Take the drawer out, and put a couple of screws from the inside into the drawer front. Then you can remove the two from the front, drill the holes all the way through and install the handles.

Definitely don't have to worry about that thing coming apart! It's built SOLID. My cheap self probably woulda used 3 screws per side (except to fix a warp if needed) and would have just glued smaller supports for the drill press instead of using that much plywood. Nice build!

Only thing I would change is that top paper drawer. Instead of just making it a solid surface, I would make it a drawer with a lid that opens so you can put paper in it and still use it as a work surface. Maybe you didn't show it in the video but I was surprised you didn't actually secure the drill press to the stand with bolts or anything. Otherwise fantastic build as always.

@BevelishCreations
@BevelishCreations 5 жыл бұрын
I just happened to have some shellac on hand. The stuff I use have wax in it, the wax actually helps me to keep glue or paint or epoxy from getting stuck on the surface. Not sure if poly would do the same
@BevelishCreations

Also, I forgot to add, Shellac has a lower working temperature and shorter wait time. Also two big reasons why I chose Shellac for this. It was 45deg when I was building this

I have a question for you: it appears your main cabinet sides are not supported by the bottom panel; they are screwed into the sides of the bottom panel. Maybe your inside cabinet sides are bearing the load? Would be interested in your thinking about this.
@BevelishCreations
@BevelishCreations 4 жыл бұрын
JT Long you’re right, the load is transferred to the sides and down into the feet of the cabinet. The bottom panel is floating above the floor and its main purpose is to act as a stretcher, not for holding the weight

I bought these plans and have a question, how did you fasten the drill press base?
@BevelishCreations
@BevelishCreations 4 жыл бұрын
David Lediard I didn’t. Haven’t had any issues with it. If you want to fasten it, then drill the bolt holes before fastening the top panel on. I kept the clearance between the drill press plate and the top panel close enough that there’s no concern for tipping over

@@BevelishCreations I am at war with these guys since they stole plans from a friend. As soon as you notice them, you see them everywhere! They have a HUGE network of sites and single page sites. Actually, it is so big that I am wondering how many people work on these and if they do the same thing in other niches. Anyways, I love your table and I am mostly to draw a lot of inspiration from it for my own!

Bevelvish - I already have some casters similar to the ones you used, but they do not come with the quick release plates. Only screws were provided. Can you tell me whether my Rockler casters will work with the quick release plates the you use in your build and provide a link to in your comments? - Bill
@BevelishCreations
@BevelishCreations 5 жыл бұрын
William Bloomberg hey the ones in my comments are the Powertec ones. I have both the casters from Rockler as well as Powertec, I’m pretty positive that they are the exact same products, just branded differently. The Rockler casters should work well with the Powertec plates and vice versa

Bevelish Creations - So, playing sleuth, I searched Rockler’s site for these quick release plates and found them right away. Bought a set immediately! Unfortunately, I’m afraid you don’t get click credit for this purchase, but I promise to make it up to you later on. I’ve subscribed to your channel and clicked the bell as well, so I’ll be back for more. You have a smooth style and a very nice delivery. From a woodworking perspective, you should take another look at cabinet construction using lock joints for carcass construction. Quicker and stronger than butt joints and pocket screws, and saves the expense or all those screws. Just a suggestion. Very nice build with excellent organization and great English grammar for a woodworker. Go easy on the “rinse and repeat” metaphor, though. (kidding)

To be wood working for less or about 1yr, you have some of the most expensive wood working tools out there. You are the perfect example of "discouragement" to someone who might want to get into woodworking by showing them they need all the fancy top notch tools to start. No, ppl, you do not need a $2000+ saw, $1000+ festool domino, bessey clamps that are at least $40+/each, incra miter sled/gauge, festool tracksaw/miter saw and router.... The list goes on. I can only imagine you were "suckered" into these expensive tools as well when you were just starting out, more than likely by watching Chris from FourEyes waaaay too much.

I don't know of how others work here ,but for me it's rather ridiculous that you don't have proper drill bit storage at a DRILL PRESS. The primary reasons for a drill press cabinet is 1.to use as a stand for a drill press and 2. as storage for drill press accessories which are easily accessible, which you only did number 1. the rest will irk you having to sift through storage containers to find the right bits as you never added proper storage in the first place. Just a wasted opportunity in my opinion.

I love your stand. However; you confuse me on some of your explanations. I have found a lot of makers need to show and tell there explanations for some of us. The more video detail the better. Heck, I would contribute to those that explain in there videos in greater details. Kind of like The wood whisperer does. You made some explanations , like time stamp 2:00 I got all confused on that explanation, and more later on. You’re a good maker, if you want to grow more and more amature and intermediate wood workers, be a show’er and explainer...Need to show what you are explaining. TYVM..
