Those corners look like a WHOLE lot of frustration ... :D
@smirbelbirbel10 жыл бұрын
Great tutorial! Just a quick tipp: for flattening the folds at the round corners you can use a hammer. Just test it on a spare part of the cover material first to make sure it doesn't leave bad imprints. Make sure the backside of your hammer is smooth. A shoemaker's hammer is ideal. And then don't be shy and apply some force - works great and is easy and quick! :)

I might make a tutorial for that in the future. Wouldn't you want the full text block to have a cover though? I would think for archiving a used book, to keep it somewhere with a cover would be nice. But if you care more about the cover than the pages, I can see your point.

This is so cool! But the only thing I could think about is how she is wasting the faux leather. She could've easily used that material for two books, but glues it all in the middle of it... If you find another type of glue that says 'flexible' and 'archival safe' on it, that may be an option. You would just have to test it. From experience though, tacky glue, rubber cement or school glue won't work for this. I plan on testing some other glues and making a video for it, so look out for that in the future!
@melrose82134 жыл бұрын

Assuming you have any implement that allows you to use a piece of fine to medium sanding paper (be it a drill or a grinder with a sander attachment) you can easily round the corners (very crisp look) using two pieces of plywood to sandwich (using tape) the notebook heart. You draw your circle line on the plywood (can also be cardboard, but it generally needs to be stout) and have at it with the sander. Gives a very, very, very crisp finish, second only to using the real deal AKA the corner slicer press. Cheers.

Love this! I love Moleskine notebooks but I always wait until they go on sale, as they are a bit pricey (though mostly worth the money). The only thing that bothered me about the tutorial was when you centered the covers in the middle of the red faux leather! I would've done it a bit closer to the corner, so as not to waste the material!!

I'd say that depends on the glue you use. Fabrics that don't seep the glue through might work, or you might just glue it from the inside of the cover, the folded in bits. I've seen some old hand bound books that are glued from the inside of the covers only, with a fabric cover that's been a damaged by wear and tear.
@portablepromise12 жыл бұрын
yeah, i realized that's what you meant after i posted my previous comment. that's why i deleted it. :) and yes, i absolutely know what you mean. cutting a couple slits in the material would allow overlapping and cleaner corners, i agree!
