+Brandon Harmon I regret not taking more pictures before covering up the fowler flap linkages inside the wing. However, I still need to finish up the fowlers on the outboard wing panel where the linkages will be exposed, so I will likely be posting pictures and more details of that sometime soon in my build thread on the FT Forums here: forum.flitetest.com/showthread.php?23097-Scale-Build-Off-Scratchbuilt-96-quot-P-38-Lightning

I've been in the hobby since 1975, and that ME-109 and P-38 are two of the coolest airplanes I've seen in a while. The fowler flaps on the P-38 are outstanding. Excellent work young man!

Josh Bixler, I am around your age, and you used the perfect word - Nitchy - I was not of economic means to do this hobby, and now being in my 30s... Your channel has opened my world to that childhood want that I never got to fill as a kid. So thank you Flitetest. Now if only I could figure out the flying aspect. I am worried that FAA will beat down my door... lol okay over exaggeration, but I need to really get on that.

4:26 you guys at FliteTest are a big part of that. I could have afforded RC decades ago with the exception of crashing, that I could not afford. But now because of you, and cheap foam board builds.... I can lawn dart RC planes with abandon! The wife picked me up 5 sheets of foam board the other day and I have two complete planes worth of bits for $5. Since most of the control and propulsion parts tend to survive a crash, I can wreck these till the end of time and never go broke. Thank you for finding a way to build that is CHEAP!

Hey Josh, Nice work inspiring these kids. They often turn out to be the future of aerospace! Back when my kids were in elementary school I was doing a lot with astronomy and telescope making. I did a talk for the kids at one of the local elementary schools. At that time one of these kids moms was able to have Astronaut Peggy Whitson come in to do a short talk also. Well, one of those 5th graders went on to be one of my (many) superstar Science Olympiad team members. After graduating, he went on to get his degree in aeronautical engineering at Stanford and now works at SpaceX! He was part of the development team that built the Dragon reusable space delivery system for delivering things to the ISS. (By the way, it successfully docked with the ISS this week!) These kids are amazing and inspiration is crucial. Thanks for what you do!

The Asian guy with the P38 and German plane, the planes didn't fly slowly, that was more like a scale speed. They are long builds but it would be great to see how he dose it.
@andreslu85718 жыл бұрын
+Green Silver The 109 flies around 5mph, that's pretty slow if you ask me, lol. :D (imagine a full scale BF109 flying at 30-40 mph....). The P-38 doesn't fly much faster, maybe around 7mph.

My first exposure to the hobby as a child was my dad flying the old FM radio version planes when electric planes were unheard of. At the flying field, you always had some way to signify which frequency you were on, and a usually 2 color ribbon not he long antenna coming out of your radio. Three planes in the air was a lot and considered dangerous. Now, 100 planes flying at a time at a popolar airfield or event is not unusual with very seldom a midair collision. Oh how the hobby has changed.

Teaser twin--I'm in the process of building a similar plane. Started by programing my spectrum for differential steering ,Lot of research on utube. Next hurtle attaching center pod, then P38 style tail but real problem came in when running all the wiring to center pod ,2 sets power and 2 control leads in front of the spar then 2 servo leads behind spar( arrow shaft). Looking forward to how you accomplished this and how you managed to balance and attach strong landing gear to model.

+Brandon B I used this 3-view (link below) I found from Google images and enlarged it to the size I needed. This is just a 3-view with formers which means that there is a lot for the builder to figure out on their own. I do have plans for the foam sheeting on the outside that I made myself, but I do not have them in a digital format so I am unable to share them at the moment. I will definitely share them in the future if I figure out how to make them into a digital format. Needless to say, even if I did share my plans, there is still definitely a lot for the builder to figure out. However, I am more than willing to share my building techniques with the community if people want to see it. :) www.homefly.com/reference/p38.htm

The only requirements I have thought of are as follows: on sheet of foam board, one wood rod of any choice biggest size allowed is 1/4 inch, and it must carry a gopro and/ or fpv gear. Have 3 people design and build their own and fly it. "Winner" is determined by how ever you want them to be. And Let The Games Begin!!!
