In this project we will see how to control a roller blind via a smartphone application. The reason why I realized the project was to use a roller blind to change the background in the video footage and to be able to easily control the roller blind via my smartphone. In this project, a breadboard circuit is shown for basic readers and a printed circuit board circuit for users who want a more useful prototype. Check out the video to see how it works...
As can be seen in the video showing the step-by-step construction of the project, I can easily open and close the roller blind on my wall using my smartphone. Of course, you can use this project to wirelessly control the roller blinds on your windows. A WiFi microcontroller was used to provide wireless communication, a stepper motor to provide move, and an application called Blynk was used.
First of all, we need some 3D parts to be used like providing roller blind movement. We talked about 3D parts in the next step. In this section, we listed what we should use as hardware for electronic components and mechanisms:
Wemos D1 Mini WiFi board was used to provide motor movements wirelessly and programming: amzn.to/3mF4xZv
Hobby stepper motor 28BJY-48 and driver ULN2003 was used to movement the roller blind up and down: amzn.to/3xKkGTY
A 608zz bearing was used to ensure the smooth movement of the gear required for the roller blind: amzn.to/3QsmdW2
A mini breadboard was used to build the circuit: amzn.to/3NJ5FY7
Several jumper wires were used to provide the pin connections: amzn.to/3tveigJ
A 9V adapter was used to power the circuit: amzn.to/3QciTOJ
L7805 voltage regulator was used as 5V is required for the microcontroller: amzn.to/3twf50S
A few capacitors are needed for the voltage regulator: amzn.to/3ObRACk
Finally a few screws are needed for assembly: amzn.to/3tyciUV
A few extra components are needed for the printed circuit board prototype, mentioned these components in the PCB step.

I like the concept 👍🏻 Personally I would have added a homing sensor as sooner or later there will be a power failure or user error. It will be in my project ToDo list 👍🏻

it's a very good idea. In my case, I did it with an infrared remote control, since I find it impractical to have to enter the app to use the system.

Nice project but I see a problem. Code does not know where the curtain is and if you click twice the same button (up or down) it will continue going in the same direction and will burn at least, the motor!!

so cooool!!! + if u think is a bit slow, u can use a stronger motor and make the gear on the motor bigger than the gear on the shade, right?

Hello thanx for the video My stepper motor gets hot holding position is there any way to get it to reduce hold current? or not hold at all i want to use 18650 cells to power this but if it constantly uses current then the battery wont last a day

Hi Ryan, I'm using my Stepper motor with an ESPHome programmed 8266 and Homeassistant. With ESPHome it is possible to switch of the motor completely when he is not used by using the variable "sleep_when_done". Therefore it also must be possible to somehow solve this when you program your esp all by yourself 👍

Hey, so I had a crack of doing this a month ago. My design was to have my mounting bracket and motor within the mounting bracket. Therefore the motor sits within the blind tube. I made a shaft with an internal gear for it to rotate. I found it never had enough torque to spin the blind because of the weight of the blind. Looking at your build, it seems to pull up the blind quite easy. How heavy is your blind?
@Ryanpeka
@Ryanpeka Жыл бұрын
Hi i found that increasing the delaytime in the code gives you more torque but costs speed
@ScottyTee06
@ScottyTee06 Жыл бұрын
@@Ryanpeka in the end I got a different motor. I couldn't get enough torque from them from my heavy blind. In the end, I made a totally different 3d print. Works really well now.

@@Ryanpeka nah, totally different code. I didn't use a stepper motor. I used an encoder for feedback which I had to make the code from scratch.
