It's almost two and a half year now, and I'm using the pot that I had built in this video, almost twice or thrice every week and it is still working without any issues. So don't believe that it will fail soon. Trust me, It works ❤️👍

A lot of videos presenting this method of attaching a shaft and a button to those tiny screw-driven potentiometers. There is most likely a problem - those potentiometers are not designed for the intensive use the button will deliver so they will probably fail after some number of adjustments.
@the_vccground Жыл бұрын
It seems, but the reality is different. Its almost two and a half year since I posted this video, I am using this modified potentiometer almost two to three times each day and it is still working like a new one. So don't just believe in theory, let it prove itself practically. You will be amazed to see the results. Try it once bro.

I want to build my DIY power supply, but the small multiturn potentiometer on my module is 204 (200k) value. There are no such big multiturn potentiometer with more than 104 (100k) value, but these small one does. So, I have no option, I have to mod this small potentiometer to become a knob potentiometer like this.
@jochenhammer25203 жыл бұрын
This mod is not recommended! Just have a look at the datasheet of any (multi turn) trimmers and you can read that the 'rotational life' is 200 cycles only. So, all these trimmers are not build to be used as potentiometers. Your approach will work, but the trimmer might fail soon, if continously used in your lab supply.

For last ten months it's working well with around 10-15 rotations per week. Hopefully it may last longer than our expectations...Let's see. Will update when it fails.... 👍

I can only find 1k potentiometer I’m looking for one that goes 50 to 120 ohms . Can you drop the ohms down somehow ? I’m new at this in detail electrical
@bernardbauermeister43052 жыл бұрын
You can generally customize the resistance range of a potentiometer, by adding resistance in parallel (to decrease it) or series (to increase it). If you wanted to get 50 ohms, you could just add a 50 ohm resistor in parallel to that 1k potentiometer and essentially create a resistance that would swing from approximately 50 (47 according to theory) ohms to 0 (or close to this) ohms. The same can be done with the 120 ohms example... however, it's might be a bit closer to 110 ohms (107 according to theory). Just be careful: some applications will not work well with such a customization due to changes in the turn-to-resistance relationship. In other words, it might cause issue with sensitivity.

@the_vccground2 жыл бұрын
Split 204 as 20 & 4. The last digit denotes the number of zeros to add. So it will become 20+0000 i.e.,200000. Remove 3 zeros for a kilo. So it will become 200k which is the final value of this trimpot. Hope you understand the process and will now be able to identify these ratings yourself 👍
@bro_leo Жыл бұрын
@@cyberbeast1789 I think your module is same as mine. It also uses 204 (200k) multiturn potentiometer. But this value not available for a big size multiturn potentiometer. All of them limited to 104 (100k) only. So, we have no choice than just mod our original potentiometer from the board become a knob potentiometer like in this video.

How to bring min volage to zero voltage in variable Power supply, pls
@the_vccground3 жыл бұрын
That depends on module to module. If your power supply module supports 0V output, then only you can bring it to zero volt. Otherwise, the hack is to install a switch at the input supply side and when required, turn it off to get zero volt at the output. ❤️👍

👍
@kanishka.b85503 жыл бұрын
why the wires are soldered differently. On the Pot wires are in middle and on the board it's soldered to end terminals, leaving out the middle one. Why is that? Edit: Forgot to mention.. These small pots are Trim pots and they are only rated for few turns, not for frequent adjustments. So this could ware out quickly... Just stating a fact.!
@the_vccground3 жыл бұрын
Middle wire is connected to one of the end on the board. So connecting to the middle or to the end, means the same. Even till today, these small trim pots are working well with almost 7-8 rotations per week. Hopefully it will last longer than what we are expecting....❤️👍

What you have done is good but there is no need to remove the potentiometer trimmer from its base. It can be done straight away. The other main important thing is the trimmers have a limited life and can stop suddenly. I would suggest that we should not be doing this.
