I follow F1 racing and Indycar racing. Four time world Champion Sebastian Vetall, who is German intersperses yeah all the time which is a German thing. It seems to me all manner of racers have picked this up from Vettal. British folks often end sentences with “Isn’t it” of the like. “Vettal had a great career didn’t he?”

Hey man, i wanted to thank you alot! I bought myself a laptop for 20€ Asus with i5 4th gen. Gtx 840m (won't turn on) also I bought a multimeter, heatgun and some soldering stuff. I watched alot of ur videos, because I had no idea what it could be.. with the multimeter I found that the first mosfet had 19V input, but not output.. my first soldering looks like shit...BUT I got it back to work again!!!! So I wanted to share and say thank you! 😊 Keep it up!

I tried your home flux recipe and man, it worked amazing. I challenged it on the same board against (famous) Amtech 559 and solder made with the mix you recommended worked flawlessly. Joint is more elegant than the one made with Amtech. Amtech leaves a bit less brownish resin behind, but it's fine by me as Im always cleaning my boards with isopropyl alcohol afterwards anyway. Big thank you!

@user-qd1lb8mu9j 10 ай бұрын
@@christosmakariou4574 It is crushed rosin mixed with isopropyl alcohol. The mixing ratio is not that important. You add more rosin or more alcohol until you get the desired viscosity that works best to you. I am using this liquid flux when I want to protect traces on PCB and i don't have solder mask. You just apply this liquid flux and let it dry.

I had an Electric fire that developed a problem. When I got to the circuit board, it had fried an IC. So! It had burnt the board. I used soft silicone wire. To rewire the new chip onto the traces. And! I used this flux as you showed.Unfortunately in present times.IPA is very difficult to obtain.So I used “methylated spirit” it worked. Dissolved the rosin. And I used that. It was a brilliant flux. And the fire works a treat. Thank you for this vid. I know what I will use from now on. 👍👍 Yes pine resin.Smells great.

Hi. Thankyou so much for sharing, I'd had to wait for half an hour for you to find your different fluxes but it worth it!! Just for you and other people to know: if you want to buy rosin or colophony for REALLY cheap search the one classic dancers are using on their shoes. It's exactly the same colophony you're using for soldering but it sells in bags of 500gr for something like ten dollars!!!

Recently my wife gave me some out of date mastix (mastic) which I use as flux. It smells exactly as the flux in the old days. I have never smoked in my life but I could inhale this smoke all day and enjoy it.

Thanks for the video. I always used pine rosin, since the late 90s, and to this day I cannot find a replacement that comes closer to properties of the pine rosin when it comes to soldering electronics. In fact, most of the time I used to search among pine trees for chunks of rosin ready to be collected :) sometimes cleaning it beforehand and "purifying" was needed. overall, a great companion to every electronics technicians.

The substance he is using here to make electronic soldering flux is called: "Colophonium" or "Colophony". This is a fancy name for the naturally occurring yellow resin (rosin) from the Yellow Pine Tree. Prepared rosin flux comes in 50gram tins for around $6 to $9. You can buy 1.5 lbs. of "Colophony" rosin for $16 and make your own dissolving it in isopropyl alcohol - That's equal to 13 tins, enough to last quite awhile.

Greetings from the US Gulf Coast. The reason folks use a fume extractor is not the rosin - it's the solder. To use one or not is a personal choice, but folks in the electronics craft tend to have higher blood lead assays than most, and that's not a good thing. Rosin flux has been around for years, and is still one of the best types for electronics work. The clear stuff looks like rework flux. Seems like it would be handy enough for the kind of work you do. Melting rosin goes more easily if it is finely powdered. An improvised mortar and pestle works well enough for this. Rosin attracts water, so keep rosin powder in a dark container when not in use. For those of us not using e-cigarettes, save the empty bottles from Shave Secret shaving oil or from any of several eye drops. Good stuff, man! I mean to try making my own solder flux as soon as I can collect some pine rosin.

I'm not sure if it is known all over the world, but in Germany there is something they call "Löthonig" = "soldering honey", it is basically exactly this mix of colophonium and isopropy-alcohol, hobbyists use often benzine and less clean alcohol and it works too, but the sense is to make a thick paste so it looks and feels like honey, that stuff is great and ready made pretty expensive. I want make both, honey and liquid, but still wating for my colophonium from China, step by step I'm gonna test all the diy recipes I can find, solder paste is also on the plan :)

Even if there's not the same chemicals in pure pine rosin you should still always use a fume hood. There's studies that show it still causes allergies and other respiratory issues. It's also only temporarily vaporized, when inhaled it'll cool down and stick to the inside of your lungs, like some "natural" subtances used in bootleg vapes, ppl just assume things aren't dangerous when its "natural", but vaporizing and inhaling some substances is still dangerous to us

@@ten10ca I enjoy because it shows there is more to this world to know and acknowledge, the beliefs to superstitions that are different to understand, cultural upbringings that is great to share, new lands to be exposed to. I am an optimistic in some ways that there are people like you and me that just want to share knowledge that today’s society and media doesn’t want the general to know since you don’t have to throw money into it as much as the next product they are pushing. I have a pancake mix my family loves and haven’t had to buy the store brands in years and only recently few others understand that it is the little things shared that we appreciate instead of having it constantly similar to what is expected. I learnt to solder when I was aged in single figures and have been for 30+ years now but was never really taught the importance of flux, wrongly assuming that flux-cored solder was enough - it's only after watching re-work videos that I recently bought a 50ml bottle of liquid rosin flux which was about 5 quid - it will probably last me a lifetime as a hobbyist, just just like my reel of full-fat leaded solder which I've had since the 80s ;) I might make up some of your home-brew flux to compare :)

This guy is the best. Nothin fancy just works and works well I might add. I use the same stuff (kalafonia) much better than other more expensive fluxes.

6:14 LOL 😂😂😂 Why do you need fume extractors? Old School! 👍☑

No...... I am Old School, from the 70s this was not our credo Granted that we didn't put too much emphasis in the beginning on fume extractors but.. WE ALWAYS MADE AN EFFORT TO AVOID THE FUMES. whether that meant, leaning back a bit whether that meant , blowing the smoke away while soldering we always did something but, did we say..... ahhhhh breath it in like there's no tomorrow, HAHA NO WE DIDN'T

In a closed glass bottle and in the ultra sonic bath it is faster. OIn an open bottle in warm uS bath if the mix is too fluid. I would use the hot air to warm the mix It works as expected, while some paper towel a brush and isopropyl alcohol are mandatory to clean the residue. I noticed on videos that some pros use special "towels" that leave no fiber, to absorb the residue of flux. It is cleaner than brushing with alcohol (and the brush bristles are kept more clean, not polluted with rosin) However, I noticed that your rosin is more yellow than brownish, certainly a sign of quality
