Totally worth building it yourself. Pre-made is probably quicker but I've found that you never get exactly what you want. You always have to adjust your personal setup to what a desk manufacturer allows. Currently I'm working off a basic fold out table so I can figure out what works for me before I build something similar to what you have. Nice video and nice desk. Thanks.

Nice desk, I'll make mine base on this design. Just a tip as I'm a construction worker. Using a leveling tool is fine if the reference surface is level. I have learned that the hard way at my first job site years ago! That balcony propably have a small inclinasion toward the outside the help the water evacuate the oposite side of the house. This one look sturdy, but you never know. Always check your reference surface as a mixing eng. use references tracks when using a leveling tool.

@klubstompers3 жыл бұрын
@@ClaritoneAudio You could cut a section out of the desk top, in the front middle, so that you can scoot in closer, and just re stain/poly the cut. Round the outside corners on the cut, so you don't have sharp ends. Currently building a desk, and really like how you have the rack accessible from the top. Looks real nice man!!

@@klubstompers how would you round the corners? whats the name, or even better make/model of that kindo of router I think its called?

@@AI-Consultant Just draw a design on the top of the desk, cut that out with a jig saw, and then go around it with a router if you want to smooth it out. You could use a "flush cut round over bit" if you want.

Nice design. How much of a cost difference would you say there is between this and a ready made desk?
@ClaritoneAudio4 жыл бұрын
+Sub Element Recordings desks here in Canada start at around 1000 for the absolute cheapest options made for studios. something with this size and rack space would be anywhere from 1500$ and up + the shipping costs of ordering a full desk :) so at least 50% cheaper I would say.

@@ClaritoneAudio That's a significant difference. Thanks for the info. I'm in the market for a new desk and have been playing around with the DIY option. I like this design. Step 2 shows and angled cut from the bottom foot (15 3/4) to the top arm (11 3/4). In the video this cut looks straight. Is there a reason you chose to do it straight instead of like the plans?

Hi, these plans were redrawn nicely after I built them from the original plans i scribbled down.. This was a change that was done then. If I would redo it i would add that angle as it looks nice and would also be more sturdy for supporting the countertop (not that there is sturdiness issues in either case) Hope that helps

Quickly becoming one of my favorite KZbin channel. Very nice Desk/Rack. I think if you have the tools, time and craftsmanship, this design is the way to go. Wanting to build the two side units for a mastering setup. Might extend to 12 rack spaces. Reshaping the side board slightly and applying the 1" X 8" perpendicular to the rack angle will allow for two additional rack spaces at the top. Thanks for posting...

@ClaritoneAudio3 жыл бұрын
Hi, I'm from Canada so I'm not sure if it will apply, but it was purchased at the hardware store Rona. If you find a piece that is slightly less deep it could work with little or no changes to plans. Width can also be adjusted of course, that's as easy as spacing the two bottom rack/support pieces further apart Good luck and hope you can make your own plans with what you find locally 🙏

@@ClaritoneAudio Thanks!
@kirstensray4 жыл бұрын
I love this design because I'll be moving soon and this allows you to have the desk in manageable pieces. Thank you so much for the plans. I do plan to build this desk. The modifications I'm thinking of are to only have 6 rack spaces per side instead of 10 per side. And also to make the desk top a couple of inches shorter. I'm not sure how these changes will affect the stability of the desk, though. I may even put the two sides together with no space in-between to make it more compact. (like the Bazel Raystag desks) and then add a ledge behind the racks to hold the video monitor. This guy did something similar to this desk in Europe, using metric measurements with angled side pieces - kzbin.info/www/bejne/gYWqo52hf9hlndk.
