Great idea Jenn! I have been using the professional version of that Brother Label Maker for over 20 years in my dental office. I knew the labels were liquid and chemical resistant, but didn't know about UV stability. I wonder how they will hold up in the Kansas heat and sun. I guess I will find out! I use the TZ series of label tape. The wooden tongue depressors and sharpie markers decompose completely under soil in 2 months. If cut properly, those milk jugs can still be recycled as long as the recycle symbol is intact. Another great use for that label maker is labeling ALL of the breakers in your electrical breaker box.😲 THANKS JENN!!

Oh, I love the labeling the breakers idea! Mine were written in pencil 30 years ago and are so hard to read.

If they hold up well in the Florida weather, I'm sure they can handle Kansas sun too. There's not even a LITTLE fading on mine after a few months!

That’s a great idea. Bleach bottles work well, as well. I learned a long time ago, that a permanent marker isn’t permanent when you write on plastic, and then put it out in the sun and weather. I carefully wrote on my markers for each plant only to find my writing completely gone after a month or two outside. I use a grease pencil now and that seems to hold up to the sun and weather. The label maker is a great idea.

In place of the milk jug, I use pieces of old mini blinds for the markers. We replaced the ones in our bathroom and I kept a stack of them to cut up and use as plant markers. The slightly curved shape makes them nice and sturdy in the soil and they are super easy to cut to whatever length or width is suitable. My writing is terrible and my daughter has that same label maker so I'll definitely be trying that. Thanks for the tip.

I have heard several people recommend old blinds.. great idea! My handwriting is terrible too, lol. I can never use one of those dry erase family calendars on the wall in the kitchen because of it, lol

Jen, good tip. My wooden labels are so dark, I can't read them. This is a great solution. We are just up the road from you in Ponte Vedra. Rock on!

Ponte vedra is a beautiful place! I've been there several times, my parents live nearby in Palm Coast

Put this into action today! Planted 2 types of carrots, beets, mesclune, Detroit Red Giant radishes AND WATERMELON RADISHES!!! I put the labels on wooden tongue depressors. They only last 2-3 months before rotting off, but by then it will be time to close down this Kansas garden until next year.

sounds perfect! Also, i want to try watermelon radishes now too, lol

After using a permanent marker to label my plants, one good rain and the ink ran off the labels. Went ahead and ordered a labelmaker. Thanks for the idea. Permanent is not as long as it use to be.

I agree the failure of the permanent marker is annoying! glad the video helped give you another idea :-)

That's funny. Your name just reminded me of that old show and watching it as a kid, I probably should have added context to the first comment. 😅

instead of a sharpie use a paint marker they hold up in the sun im in OCALA FL. and have no fade problem . i also use mini bind slats for the markers.

Another way to save is print a bunch of labels in a row with just a space in between on the label maker. It is ridiculous all that wasted space on both edges. That's what I do now f I can.
@SpaceCoastHarvestАй бұрын
I agree! I was able to find a setting that you can change to make it less, but it is still a lot of wasted space
