I built a new octagonal tackhead banjo and I'm happy with how it turned out!
If you wanna learn more DIY banjo stuff, I highly recommend checking out ‪@CliftonHicksbanjo‬'s channel! I've learned a whole lot about banjo building and playing by watching his videos!
Thanks bye! ❤️

I admire your crafting skills, and I really appreciate your "make do" approach! There's no flashy equipment, no clinical studio setup or any other sort of showing off! You build great instruments and you are very modest about your achievements. Top marks for your banjo playing!

I want to learn banjo... I want a fret less... They all look to be more money than I care to spend... I see you making this work... Perhaps I will try to make my own... I think, you have inspired me.

You inspired me. You showed me how you can do this in your apartment with inexpensive tools. Now I've started renovating old instruments and building new ones on the kitchen table (and balcony, and the apartment complex's small common workshop). It's a great hobby and I can also make a little money. 😅

Thats awesome, super nice to hear! 🌞🌞🌞 I started building instruments at a rehersal space we were renting with a couple of bands. I tried my best cleaning up all the saw dust and scrap wood, but im sure some of the people were not happy with the mess i made hahaha! Have fun building stuff!✌️

I'm generally not a fan of banjos because they usually sound shrill and twangy. However, I appreciate the craft that goes into making and playing them. Plus, yours sounds great and has a nice mellow sound.

I always thought that, and then I discovered gourd/tackhead banjos with nylon strings and they are now some of my favourite instruments haha

I've noticed that trash boxsprings are often made of pretty damn decent quality spruce. They can be a hassle to break down but it's good stock for guitar braces.

SUPER talented young man with a great sense of humour! 😂 Glad this vid was randomly on my feed and you got a new subscriber for sure. Gotta let you know, you had a 50 year old man in tears at the end of this while you played brushes on the drums cos my Dad was a drummer his whole life but we never played together as I only picked up a banjo after he suddenly died during covid (despite being fit as a butchers dog!) but I could see him playing along with me instead as I know he would have done if we had had the chance! Also, your sound recording!..👍I’m no expert but 👏👏👏👌

You need to make yourself a shaving horse then if you get a drawknife it will be a lot easier to shape instrument necks. Good sound from your banjo .

Good job! I've built two banjos. One octagonal mountain banjo. And a moc Tackhead based off my Boucher. But they aren't the quality of yours. Clifton Hicks has a video of building an octagonal mountain banjo and a Gourd Banjo. You should check them out!

I really want to make my own banjo like this using the video as a tutorial but I have no experience woodworking. How much experience do I need, and would it be alright if I ask some more questions here? (Also that banjo makes a really pretty sound)

you gotta hit it harder and and frettless are made to slide. put some rythm into it.
@LAURISDIYCHANNELTV
@LAURISDIYCHANNELTV Жыл бұрын
I agree lol! For some reason this doesnt sound very good when played loud. I think i’ll replace the bridge with a taller one, giving more space to hit. That might help, cause the strings are very close to the head now. For the lack of slides i do not have an excuse, i’ll be posting my apology video soon 😢 🪕

@@LAURISDIYCHANNELTV thin bridges make a clearer sounding banjo and also down pressure on the string behind the bridge like modern tail peices you can adjust how much the push the strings down.
