I like the idea of the reducer to keep them inside like the ancient pots. I live across the Pacific from you on the Oregon coast and nobody does this. I'm really wanting to try it. Thanks for the video.

Simple idea, don't need bait, hardest part is waiting for the pots to get growth so the occys want to make home in them. The pros here in Australia use trigger traps which the door slams shut and they're stuck until someone pulls them out. Thanks for watching over in the US! Appreciate it 🤙

Interesting. What kind of species do you usually catch in these ? Do you eat them all ?

Hey Mate Not sure what species they're just octopus to me! Yep I love to boil and pickle them when not using fresh for bait 🤙

I've just w arched 2 and a half mins of this video and I'm going out so I'd just like to query if your putting steel bars out the back to stop it rolling around in heavy swell,as occurs don't handle any movement (rolling) in my experience I had plenty success with 10 to a line In Jurien in the 90 s I didn't have concrete just Rio bar in x fashion protruding,used water pistol of fresh to get them out lol

Hey mate! Nah, no rio bar this time. In the past i have put two pots together and also built one on a steel rack with 4 pots to stop them rolling around. I'm just fishing out of cockburn sound so not to sure what works better than the other as the results are quite similar. I use rock salt to get them out once the pots are drained. It stinks their skin and gets them out willingly 😂

Great Vids mate. What sort of soak time do you like to leave them in for?
@SmallBoatBIGAdventures2 жыл бұрын
Hey Mate at least a week for the first soak to get some growth on them 👍

Hi! It's not necessarily to full with all this concrete, it's not necessarily at all concrete because pvc it's to heavy and goes alone at the bottom. I did the same mistake at the beginning, after I watch the italians fishermen that they don't use concrete. Just you can close one side with polyester. Regards from Greece.

Hi, Wondering if you need id number on the float and do you need an anchor on the end
@SmallBoatBIGAdventures2 жыл бұрын
Yes to both, anchor or heavy weight to stop the string from moving in heavy currents.

How many octopus pots are legal per person with recreational fishing license. I thought it was 3 pots per person ?
@SmallBoatBIGAdventures2 жыл бұрын
Hey, it depends on the type of "pots" you're using. I queried with the Fisheries before I built mine to double check quantity limits. If you are using traps there is a limit of 10 to be used. If you are using shelter pots similar to mine then there is no limit to how many you can have 🤙🐙
