I use the 2x Zip Lock bag method, 1 or 1/2 gallon works well. I break the oil filter seal, turn it about 1/2 turn, slip on the first bag and continue loosening until the oil starts to pour into the first bag. I wait about 30 seconds until the oil stops, slip off the first bag into a waiting shallow pan I have to the right of me. I slip on the 2nd bag, and then continue to unscrew the filter until it's off, wait about 10 seconds after the filter comes off to catch any of the oil in the oil filter mount. Drop that 2nd bag into the pan I have right next to me and done. Zero drips, no mess.

I've got the same truck, thank you for the tip I'll try it next time. And great video production, you clearly spent time on it. A tip for you since you keep your stuff clean. Harbor freight sells an oil change funnel kit. It comes with screw in adapters for filler opening then the funnel locks into that. No need to worry about it flopping around when the weight of the oil is in it. Comes with lids to keep out dirt when not in use. I recommend

After watching your video near the end of the video, I suggest that you add lubricating the "O"-ring on the oil filter with a little oil. This method should be used with ALL "O"-rings, they should be lubricated with the liquid that they are sealing. I liked the plastic bag trick, I will use it the next oil change. Thanks

Good idea on the gallon baggie... In the past, I would cut the sides of a plastic bag and drape that over the power steering rack (2012 ram) to prevent oil from degrading the boot and in general making a mess. I am in the middle of the first oil change on my 2022 (bought it new with 8 miles on odometer about 2 months ago), and noticed the new set up and the much much smaller oil filter.

I don't recommend this at all. The VRT lifters in the Hemi truck rely on a precise flow of oil for a short period of time to make them perform properly. A change in oil from SAE 5w20 to SAE 5w30 is huge! the viscosity could change from 5.6 cST to 9.3 cSt. That's a 66% increase. The thicker oil would restrict the flow of oil in the lifters to the point where you could blow the engine up. Keep your oil clean-change the filter every time. I researched oil several times and have used Pennzoil for 30 years. My last Hemi truck was a 2006 and it had 215000 on it in 2021 when I sold it.

Do you think the Pennzoil Platinum is best for Hemisphere vs Royal Purple, or others?
@FirefighterBuell
@FirefighterBuell Жыл бұрын
I personally do not think “most” high quality synthetic motor oils are too different in terms of engine wear and longevity. Everyone has a story on how they’ve used a specific oil for 300k miles. That being said the pennzoil platinum seemed to be most popular option for the hemi and a very budget friendly option so I went that route. If I did it again I’d choose the Platinum Pennzoil.

I start loosing it little by litthe taping the end of the my wrench to not damaged the bolt. Once llit was loose woth no issues , i drained the oil and start putting the plug back. Once i got to a tight poin BY ONE HAND I gave it another little tight by hand and the oil pan cracked like aboit 6 inches . The crack runs right through the bolt threat 3 inches on each side. The best one to use is the Fumoto # F106SX. It's shorter and won't interfere with the stabilizer bar. The nozzle comes out the side and can be rotated 360 degrees in any direction before tightening down.

I changed the oil in my truck exactly one time. I said f*** it after that. I'll go to jiffy lube. Which sucks because I kind of enjoy changing my own oil however this truck is a nightmare. No matter what you do you're going to make a huge mess.

I use to always hand tighten but this truck and my car leak oil if I don't tighten the oil filter with whatever you can tighten it with safely without damaging the filter. Out of all the vehicles I've owned this oil filter location is horrible and the worst.

Well for one the timer on the truck was up. And two, it was the first oil change since I got it from the dealer used. I dont know when they actually changed it or what they used so it was more piece of mind.

Man, that oil was very black. Something is wrong if it got that way at 4000 miles. Also, I only know of one thing that could cause oil in the air intake, the crankcase ventilation system. Check your PCV valve.

The oil catch can oil shouldn't be put back in to your truck. The purpose of the catch can is to remove crude and anything that shouldn't be cycling through your crank case. I'd empty the catch can into your oil catch next time. Otherwise you're throwing bad oil back in with the new oil change.
@FirefighterBuell

I think you’re mistaken on what’s going on in the video. That’s an empty container that the old oil is being dumped into. By no means would I put the old oil back in the truck.

If you cut one of the corners off the bottom of the ziplock bag then use a zip tie to tie the opposite bottom corner off so it forms kind of a pastry bag/ funnel shape. Use another zip tie to zip tie the bag around the oil filter tightly. Slide a phillips head screw driver through the hole in the corner of the bag you cut out. Using a small hammer GENTLY TAP a hole in the bottom of the filter.Remove the screw driver and let the oil flow out of the filter, into the bag and out the hole into your oil tray. You'll have to loosen the oil filter in 2 or 3 steps without removing it completely for all the oil to drain. Then remove the filter completely and wipe off the mating surface on the engine block. Not one drop of oil spilled and no mess whatsoever. Changed my oil several times using this method and haven't spilled a drop.

thaught for sure he was gonna strip that drain plug bolt withat 2 wrench method,ALMOST THOUGH,if seen buddies strip that plug and ends up being HUGE problem trying too then drill it out then "easy"outs,huge pain.moral of the story boys and girls,do NOT try that 2 wrench thing for leverage,you shouldnt need leverage just normal snug up.thats why folks ALWAYS strip em cause they incredible hulk tighten for no reason lol,u forgot too mention,when putting it in"run mode"DO NOT press brake,simply double tap button
