Thank you so much. The Haynes manual makes no mention of how the filter is clipped into the cover. This has explained it perfectly.

Just Stab a screwdriver in the side of the old filter it will go right through, then lever it off against the edge of the plastic housing. Works every time

Thank you, before this I had no idea what sort of clip was holding the filter inside the cover cap. As it turned out, I needed to roll my tool out of some thin mylar sheet, since cardboard was too thick and soft. It then worked perfectly.

I DID THIS! Here's my report. Anyone who can remove the oil filter from the housing with just a tug, has either broken retaining tabs or a different set up. The filter in my 207 1.6 hdi was well contained and if I tugged any harder something would have broke. The cardboard soon gets soft with oil and did not work for me. Next I tried some light plastic, still no good. Then I cut a 70 x70 mm square out of a soft drinks can. This worked, it's thin enough and strong enough with a curve already inherent, just be very careful not to cut yourself on the razor sharp edges, thin rubber gloves will offer sufficient protection. It helps if you do this in good light to ensure it goes between all of the retaining tabs. Many thanks to Poul for the original idea, without which I would have broken something or given up and put the old filter back in. ONE YEAR LATER! Another oil change... different filter...the above method didn't work...after an hour wasted I held the captive used filter by its exposed part and used a socket set extension bar to tap down the centre cavity, hitting the bottom of the filter holder...came off no problem!

Thank you for this tip ... I took my old oil-filter apart bite for bite to get it out, but next time it will be much easier. When I did my oil-change, I pulled dawn the oil drain hole with a tool made af a piece of board and a longer bolt. Bore ø 10 mm for the bolt, and ø 55 half through the board or about 15 mm in depht. Hold the board with the ø55 on top against the sump, and screw in the longer bolt trough the board into the drain-hole and then screw/pull it down.... The problem with the oil drain hole in these engins, is that it,s pressed aprox 10-15 mm above the buttom of the sump, so after pulling it down, it,s possible to drain aprox 1/4 liter more oil out of the sump ...

Great, wish I had found this 2 hours ago, when I was at my garage. At least it´s new oil, I knew that the filter was easy to change and you can do that after anyway. Tomorrow I´m going to change the stubborn filter, I have some thin plastic sheet that I will test also.

I had the same trouble getting the filter element out of the filter housing...I tried this method but it was a bit too fiddly for me... In the end I used a pair of welding grips to work the element side to side while pulling and it soon popped loose... Would it have killed the designers to use a screw type attachment? I'm not even sure if they need to attach the filter element.

I cut a square out of the side of a 2 litre milk container then curled to a tube and cut to size - worked well. Skip to 3 minutes in this video to see the actual method!!

i have the same. and have no problem removing the filter. just pull it out of the cap. its a little snug. but no problem just pull it out
@StopTheRust6 жыл бұрын
no you don't have the same problem. Mine is so stuck you would rip the filter in half before it comes out. I'm glad it was easy for you though.

Very useful for the stubborn oil filter stuck to the plastic cap on my 2012 Citroën C3 Picasso. One tip is to use a long flathead screwdriver to force the cardboard in between the plastic tabs and the oil filter if pushing on the cardboard tube isn't enough. Make sure the cardboard is between at least 4 (ideally all 6) tabs before trying to pull the oil filter off.

The Fiesta TDCI filter is very easily removed and install by hand. If the filter is difficult to remove, is more likely to be a badly made filter or not installed properly.

Screwdriver through the old filter and carefully lever it out.
@larsjoke8 жыл бұрын
Option 1. Pull extremely hard on the old filter until it comes out. The tabs inside the cap are strong and won't break and the lip of the filter rim is beveled to let go. Option 2. Destroy the oil filter with a screwdriver, starting with the plastic top, then using a screwdriver and hammer to break through the vertical plastic structure. Option 3: Follow this tutorial.

Thanks, option 1 worked with a friend holding the housing and me pulling the filter with both hands 😁

Hang on a minute, will that cardboard get soggy as soon as it touches your oily filter - not this clean demo seen here. That was the thought nagging me, but gave it it a go anyway. The cardboard was useless. Use plastic, or have a plan B - see larsjokes comment.

Useful, but for me the toilet paper cadboard was too soft. I used a sheet of plastic from an empty can instead.

you just need to give it a good pull and it will come out .

i prefer the metal ones cuz mechanics wont work properly n will damage this plastic housing...actually im going to do this by myself!!

Anyone else having issues like I did then put the filter on the floor between your feet, with the metal on top. Make sure you have old shoes on and a tight grip and just pull. It will pop out. I recommend doing it on newspaper.

so what did the cardboard actually do? nothing! you just pull them off, anybody who can not pull that out would not even have the strength to undo it in the first place, he's nut's
