DIY onewheel from used hoverboard build video

The Onewheel is an amazing product that is a highly engineered piece of personal electric mobility. Unfortunately, its price is a serious barrier to entry which they have tried to address with new versions but even the new model is expensive. Unlike electric skateboards, there is not a realistic affordable DIY option. This was my motivation for this project.
This project was also inspired by Zblab out of Poland. I had been thinking it was possible to DIY a Onewheel using the electronics and hardware from a used hoverboard for a while and I stumbled across Zblabs project which proved the concept. His execution was top notch and his build capabilities are amazing with his ability to manipulate aluminum with CNC and welding.
His project helped me confirm my thought that re-configuring a hoverboard into a onewheel was very possible. His utilization of a CNC machine and aluminum welding capabilities are out of the reach of most DIY builders, including myself. I felt inspired to develop a build that could be achieved utilizing basic tools and access to a 3d printer. I felt that given the recent access to very affordable and capable 3d printers from China the utilization of a 3d printer is more accessible than aluminum welding and CNC machines.
Some of the tools you will need:
- access to a 3d printer
