I’ve had a lot of questions in the Astrophotography community about how my observatory was built and how it works so this is a quick video explaining it if you notice anything I missed I’ll be happy to answer some questions. Thanks for watching clear skies

Hi, and thanks for this video. I am tossing up between a similar design or a RoRo. How large is yours W x L x H, and what is the roof angle? Do you think the weight of one around 3m x 3m with a 30 deg rake would make it too heavy/ cumbersome to open and close? Opening one side at a time (and maybe not even fully open) would give me some wind protection while a RoRo wouldn't.

Looks like it functions better than a roll off and looks better without stupid wooden bars hanging off the side of it

Surprisingly small observatory. That massive property could have 20x30ft observatory with hosting capability.

Great Video.. be careful with the bungees for safety sake, if they come loose or snap back at you it could cause a regretful backlash

I like it! It's 'kind of' like a dome - such that you can open what part of the roof you want, to observe the part of the sky you are viewing, as opposed to opening ALL of the roof - which is necessary for a roll-off roof design. I'm looking to build a new observatory, in the size of 12' x 24' - and I had considered a roll-off roof which means that I need to have another 24' of space for the roof to roll off. Your method - I'm going to give this a lot of thought. Thank you for this video.

Would a roll off be easier?

Yes that was my original plan but I already had a 10x10 concrete pad that I wanted everything contained on. If I went with a roll off roof I would have needed posts out 8ft from the wall. Also what ever direction it rolls it will be in the way possibly. This way made certain I can have a 360* view with no obstructions

Bizarre, one day you’ll hate yourself for not building a roll off roof, just saying.
