this is the most soothing plant video i have ever seen; i was worried about the superglue chemistry, good to know it is inert; i think i want to listen to your videos for meditation, they are so respectful and gentle towards life.

If you painted the back with brown 100 percent silicon where it touches the wall then it won't discolor the wall and will allow you to have the wood more moist. Also if you wanted to is to add a small water bottle with a hole and a natural rope to the back that leads up to where the plant is planted. The wicking effect will keep the orchid watered longer.
@BenRichFilm3 жыл бұрын
Love the silicone back idea! I've experimented a bit with a wick idea but haven't found anything effective yet that isn't unsightly. But I'll keep playing with this idea.

I'm sorry to hear that you lost this Phal. It is good to know that your 1st experiment did work though. I hope that you have done more since your move because clearly you have a knack to make them look good. : }

Regrettably the orchid died from freezing during my move across country in Jan. To answer some questions: The orchid did very well for three months before the move with almost daily watering, a mix of either taking it down and soaking in a bucket of water or spraying thoroughly. It had several new roots and a baby leaf before the move.

Orchids is studied to live in white people's home through pot. Don't try to pretend their are in their habitat cus home and habitat are totally different especially when your home don't have the minimum requirement. And the glue was a stupid idea

@BenRichFilm Жыл бұрын
The plant did well for several years, until it was killed by frost during a move. I have since used this technique on other builds. The main problem is maintaining enough humidity in this exposed root design in my current climate in Vegas. I can't do the regular wall mount like I did in this video, but instead must have them in higher humidity enclosures.

@TheJakaranda7 жыл бұрын
BenRichFilm Indoor I can only think about cattleya. Phal likes to be watered when the media is reaching a dryness, while cattleya can stay dry couple more days. But cattleya will need to be well soaked after it got dry out! Too much hassle (for me). I grow all my orchids in the garden in pots here, on east coast of Australia. The lowest humidity here is 60% in winter time. I've got some oncidiums and vandas growing on trees. They need some watering, despite they grow on naturally occurred pillows of dry and rotted leafes, which retain water.
@TheJakaranda7 жыл бұрын
Brassavola! I'm thinking to mount mine, cos its too sensitive to over watering. But she is growing and flowering for me in large bark media in a pot. Very fragrant at night! ) Happy gardening! )

Think again. People use superglue in reef tanks to attach very sensitive corals to rocks and it does nothing to them. Also people use it to attach moss to wood or rock in freshwater tanks. Please actually research something before saying it.

@imnotabelieverunlessyoucan5448 Жыл бұрын
Isn't super glue toxic????
@BenRichFilm Жыл бұрын
Superglue was actually invented to close wounds, so it is safe on living flesh. There is probably some noxious off gassing during the rapid curing process, but the glue itself does not damage the plant.
@gerripalmer62067 жыл бұрын
do you take them down to water or spray them ?

@BenRichFilm3 жыл бұрын
I've never liked the look of fishing wire. The glue gets hidden by the moss. Also fishing wire can deform or strangle a plant as it grows while the glue, used in moderation, will not.

You shouldn't glue your orchids, you should tie with a string. A biodegraded string, the plant you grow an hold itselfs with its roots.

I've done this as well though I find I don't care for the string as it rots. The glue has worked very well with three other mounts I've done that are still alive 3 years+.

People, please, use common sense and do not apply super-glue on plants. It's wrong. There are many natural ways to attach the orchid. Is it so difficult to figure that the roots will obviously suck all chemicals from the glue?
