I am commenting to COMPLAIN .... Now, you have me mounting orchids like crazy!! Especially as I can get (for freeee!!) various woods from my environment: coconut tree stumps, branches from my dried out "Sweet Lime" hedge, and of course, beach driftwood - desalted, of course - and cut through tree stumps, like the ones you get from The Orchid Supply store). Some of my new mounts, are "plate" mounted, or vertically mounted. Recently, I was forced to unpot my Mokara vanda (ant infestation, as it has a flower spike), and used a wire hanger to make a mount for it. Tee-heee. Just this morning, I had to unpot and mount on a piece of driftwood, a failing Epidendrum Latilabre (tiny wild orchid). I also just got to do air plants!! Came across a calabash tree "infested" with them!! Plucked a few, and mounted them on hollow cardboard lengths (empty LED light bulb holders). OK now ... just waiting to see what took hold, and how they're all doing. Thankfully, my East facing porch only gets morning sun for about 2 - 3 hours, until the sun shifts more East/South. Thanks a lot for your inspiration, enthusiasm, and of course, innovation on orchid mounting ... Yes, I have to complain ... and of course, still enjoying that infectious giggle of yours!! Love your work!! Keep it up, and stay green.

So glad to see your orchid section growing. I love how you sectioned off your orchids in their own space. I’m going orchid mounting crazy. Lol! I mounting allot of my orchids cause they seem to do way better in my environment. I do have to water every single day cause they do dry out faster. But the flip side is you don’t ever get root rot so to over watering or too much moisture.

Hi Nelson.. 👋🏻. Shared this to Twitt, I've noticed many of my Asian followers watch most vids I post, and most viewers watch in the evenings. Just to let you know. I agree the larger amount for that smaller orchid is better, and allows for growth as the smaller mount it might just take it over in one growth period. Made that mistake many times when I first started doing mini's. I use the elastic cording I get from Tarzane Orchids, I find it easier to work with and it expands as the plant grows. But I'm dealing strictly with mini's. I've also learned that some mini's don't like moss at all on the mounts, whereas some do, so I try to research what, where, and how they grow in the wilds and go from there. I'd say my collection is split 50 50 as to potted or mounted. Have a great week Nelson...later. 👋🏻 💚
@naturenel2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Robert! My largest viewing countries besides US is Asian countries. Mainly Philippines and India. I’m doing the same with the minis. Some that I got do like to have moss. But some like bare rooted. My Dendrobiums are doing much better out of the medium and on to the wood.

Mounting orchids can get very addictive. It’s therapy for me. And I’m saving allot of orchids that I’ve had in pots that didn’t fair well. As soon as I mount them they perk up and root within weeks. It insane how much orchids love to be mounted. It is their natural way of growing. I have intense OCD and went to military school. I have no other way of being than super organized. It’s part of my joy to organize my greenhouse periodically. Plants grow so they need different spaces. 🌷

@naturenel2 жыл бұрын
Awe sorry bout that. Every environment is different. Mounts work great in a tropical environment due to the constant humidity. But you still need to water daily. If You mount orchids in a hot dry place like Arizona or California, then watering twice a day would work. I have misters running plus I water in the summer.

Oh you can’t imagine the heat. I always start my videos fresh and within minutes of setting up I’m sweating bullets. The struggle in the heat is real🥵 It makes it pretty difficult to do several videos a week. If it’s not the intense shear and humidity, it’s the crazy rainstorms.

Did you see how big it’s getting? It loves to be on that mount. I just unpotted 4 Dendrobiums and mounted them all. They look so much better on the mounts. I can’t wait to see how they develop in a few months. My dendrobium in pots are not all that happy. 😞 I don’t think this areas is good to put Dendrobiums in pots. They rot. Glad you are mounting your orchids. They root like crazy. The bulbophyllum is called a Bulbophyllum capillipes. I can’t wait to see it bloom. Julian at Krull Smith sold it to me and said it is blooming size.

Holes in the tags: I always keep a paper punch in my tool kit. Perfect for punching a hole in the tag. Also handy for punching holes in the rim of plastic pots...for hanging on racks as well.
