@HeavyMetalWRX Жыл бұрын
Dude...I was actually thinking about this when I saw your last light overlay video. I was thinking "man I bed he's gonna paint his bumper something unique". I should have put money on it! I think the darker colors would look really good, like yours. If I did that to my white or an orange or red it would be too much. There's enough dark contrast between the grey metallic and black that it looks like a smooth transition.
@StreetInspired1 Жыл бұрын
That's what I was thinking. The lighter colors would maybe look strange, but the grey pulls it off pretty well. I figured I had nothing to lose trying it, if I didn't like it I could paint over it again.

Being 5 mos old, I doubt I'll get any responses, bit we'll see. Basics: I'm also MGM, I've never hated the plastic, but only reason is the texture. Plain, unpainted smooth plastic would be terrible. I won't waste space on my entire paint plan - which I believe will cause a lot of "why didn't I think of that?" reactions...but it involves some unique approaches. One, a guy in Japan finally did it: painted his plastic body-match white WITHOUT SANDING it smooth. It is incredibly unique, and something I've pondered 100x. And two, another idea is what I call "Embrace the Plastic!"...and involves going full gloss black, leaving the texture alone (with some areas MGM to tone it down a bit.) As I noted, the guy in JPN was the first I'm aware of that did color over texture, and I value such creativity, even bravery. Now since seeing it, I'm almost certain I'm doing it. MGM can, I believe, get away with bold gloss black fender arches & garnish. I have gloss black wheels, as well, like the VIZIV had with its black CF arches, rockers, etc. I'm just thinking it might be too bold. (Wish I still had my PhotoShop skills...lost them years ago after some projects were done.) I have purchased an entire second set of "plastic", minus the rockers. It sucks the one arch off eBay has a gouge in it. It can't be used for anything but a fill/sand/paint.

Hey…👋 thank you for the video, idk if you will be painting the textured portion of the bumper later bit wanted to ask your advice on the method to sand the textured plastic? Thank you in advance
@StreetInspired1 Жыл бұрын
To sand the texture off I would use a 320grit sand paper and if that doesn't work go to a 220 or 320. After it's smooth I would primer all of the sanded plastic with a 2K Urethane primer and then sand the primer smooth with 500 or 600 grit and then apply your top coats!

I have a magnetite grey and will not paint match, with the black and grey there is not much contrast anyway so it's not that noticeable. If I had a lighter colour, I would paint all the textured bits. But I'd leave them textured, not sand it off.

I have to disagree with this comment. I've painted cars professionally for 10 years and there's nothing wrong with doing it this way if done correctly. This cost me $80. Traditionally, when I was still painting cars we would charge a customer $300+ to do the same thing I did for $80.
