DIY PAINT on The Chevelle Wagon

In this episode I pick up all the paint and Materials from my local paint supply store South Bay Paint.
Because I don’t paint cars often I tell them to give me everything I need to Paint the jams and firewall on my 64 wagon.
The Chevrolet Chevelle is a mid-sized automobile that was produced by Chevrolet in three generations for the 1964 through 1978 model years. Part of the General Motors (GM) A-body platform, the Chevelle was one of Chevrolet's most successful nameplates. Body styles included coupes, sedans, convertibles, and station wagons. The "Super Sport" versions were produced through the 1973 model year, and Lagunas from 1973 through 1976.
After a four-year absence, the El Camino was reintroduced as part of the new Chevelle lineup in 1964.
The A-body Monte Carlo, introduced in 1970, also used a platform that was based heavily on the Chevelle platform, although it was lengthened ahead of the firewall.
The Malibu was the top-of-the-line model through 1972 and completely replaced the Chevelle nameplate starting with the redesigned and downsized 1978 model year

I have a.65 post that I've had 35 years now. I really miss my 64 El Camino too. But always wanted a two door wagon the.most. But those things always sold for so much more even since the 80s when I bought my post (300 model Chevelle) Loving the build.

Like old wagons got a 1964 Fairlane 500 wagon I got in 1971 and still have. Doing a restore now.

I started out spraying single stage enamels and urethanes in the early 90's, in the training program at our local gollege we sprayed several gallons of DuPont Centari a week. Still have that crap on me I think. This vid took me back! Now I'M the bodyshop instructor teaching the newest stuff, but The old-school ways are still there for the DIY guys, especially with material and labor costs!

Cars look best when they've had reasonable care, parked outside, and are about 15-20 yrs old. Imperfect but easy to be proud of.. That's the sweet spot for me. I'm a single stage guy, I loathe peeling clear and like being able to compound and get down to fresh paint.

Tip. Wet the floor down to keep the dust down 👍👍🐚🍀🔥🇺🇸🇺🇸. Wet look low air pressure and slow passes , high air pressure and fast passes dryer look.your first couple of passes needed to be a little lighter just blow some color on it the first couple of passes. Last pass blow the color on just like you were doing it 👍( to avoid sags & icicle ) not criticizing just tips.

I love these "coupe-wagons!" Buddy of mine inherited his father's bought-new '65 300 DeLuxe Stingray. "Stingray" 'cos it came from the factory sporting a fuel-injected 365-horse 327!! Mark's Dad worked at {and later owned} a Chevy dealership, and this was the first new car he ever bought. Oh yes - it also came painted "Evening Orchid Metallic," which is a color {like "Butternut"} that you don't see too often.

Love the color . Back in the sixty and seventy l had a 65 Malibu ss in the same color black interior and a killer smallblock. Won my share of street races.always missed that car so seven years ago l built a64 Malibu ss and painted it the same color with black interior and a killer smallblock l have turned down 35 thousand for it who says you can't go back in time,

Hey Lucky, very nice, you are going to hate that glossy dash when your eyes get zapped by sun reflections. The dash should be a flat color so it is not reflective. I hope you have time to fix that before you get too far into the assembly.

Despite you not. going for a Show car look and i totally get your reasons for that i’m 57 years old and i think the caris going to be a good looking car when you are done there is something about the older full size 2 Door Wagons that say Cool IMO even more so when they are Hot Roddenberry a little bit and that can even be something as simple as a set of Custom wheels or even a Sportier set the factory used on some other models i’m looking foward to seeing this one put together and completed

Hey, me as well. I was fortunate to get my 68 c10 swb at a great price. Got to do the usual , rockers, floors , corners. It's the 5th 67-72 I've owned over several decades. I would highly recommend buying very good paint and all the stuff to use with it. I have bought paint and supplies in the past and went cheap and got terrible results. It looked ok but looked like shit to me. When I bought high quality paint and supplies recommended at local paint supply I couldn't believe how good it looked and it held up nice. I'm a tech, not a body man or painter but that paint made me look good. Quality products spray better and lay down so much nice.

Most people turn the volume all the way up. When you do that you only do one pass before letting it flash off. You must have turned the volume way down using your technique. 👊👊
