Great tip for the glue! I've always had a problem with paper moving and curling up on edges... Thanks for sharing
@merryclicker11 жыл бұрын
You could take it one step further and ink the edges before sealing them. It helps to "hide" the cardboard. Paint also works as long as it's a thin layer that you're rolling it through. White cardboard would blend with the edges of the paper. And the Dimensional Magic is the only Mod Podge I use.
@JewelryTutorialHQ11 жыл бұрын
In English it is called "Mod Podge Dimensional Magic". I think you can probably find it on amazon or in a large craft supply store. I hope that helps!

Wow I have been having trouble finding the right glue when gluing the earring posts..I never thought about filing the back of the posts..I am definitely trying this today...
@JewelryTutorialHQ9 жыл бұрын
Neo SoulZ Hope it worked out for you! The scuffing up the metal really helps the glue get in there and hold because it increases the surface area. The rougher you make it the better, and of course the right glue helps :) Thanks so much for visiting!

I am going to try it tonight..and that's another thing finding the right glue for the posts...I have tried tacky glue and the gel...it comes right off...
@JewelryTutorialHQ9 жыл бұрын
Neo SoulZ Try the E6000 - It works great on metal. Just be sure to follow the curing time by the instructions on the tube. The bond will be weak within the first 24-48 hours (can depend on climate and humidity) so it's best not to touch them until fully cured.

JewelryTutorialHQ I appreciate you responding

Great suggestions, thanks! I have used black sharpie on the edges before but the paint is a little tricky because it's hard not to get it on the front of the paper. Might work better to seal the paper first, then roll it in paint and then seal the edges...that way any paint that gets on the front should be easy to wipe off (theoretically). Maybe I'll try that next time!

Do you think the midge podge would still "dome" if I used a flat polymer clay surface vs paper?
@JewelryTutorialHQ10 жыл бұрын
YesKimberlyAnne as long as you use the Dimensional Magic Mod Podge then it should dome on any surface it will stick to. I *believe* it should be just fine on polymer clay :) I'd love to hear (or see) how it turns out!!

Hi, I love this idea the only thing that I think you should have changed is to glue the earring backs on to the cardboard and then add the Modge Podge so that it secures the earring base to the card board thus creating a stronger bond.

this is awesome. i want to do this but how do I make them clipons?
@JewelryTutorialHQ10 жыл бұрын
Tarra Allen Thank you! Making them into clipons would be no problem! The technique would be the same but instead of gluing posts, glue a clip-on finding. Make sure it has a pad for gluing, like these: amzn.to/1oHP33H You might need to start with a larger size circle (or other shape) to make sure it covers the pad of the finding. Those findings are 15mm which is going to be a bit bigger than the 1/2 inch size circles I used. Have fun :)

do you have to use three d mod podge, or can I use normal mod podge or mod podge hard coat??
@JewelryTutorialHQ10 жыл бұрын
I believe you could use either of those other types of mod podge, yes! I use the 3-D because I like the way it adds a domed finish. Regular mod podge would just dry flat, so it's really just a matter of taste :) Have fun!!
@Dani-dy6vx10 жыл бұрын
JewelryTutorialHQ awesome, thanks! also, where can i find that craft punch online? i cant seem to find the right size....
@JewelryTutorialHQ10 жыл бұрын
Danielle Wallace So sorry for the confusion - looks like I made a mistake. The punch I have is a .5" punch - I think I measured the piece I cut out and came up with 7/16" which is only a hair smaller than 1/2" ( which I guess accounts for the cutting). I was just being too exact, lol. Turns out 1/2" punches are not so tough to find - here is the cheapest one I can find on Amazon: amzn.to/1k3cyUB Sorry about that, love! xo, Jessica

can i know the material your putting on top of design paper
@JewelryTutorialHQ10 жыл бұрын
sheranya Of course! I am using something called Mod Podge Dimensional Magic (from Amazon: amzn.to/1d6KdFA). This type of Mod Podge dries with a nice dome to it which I love and is great for projects like this. There are many other types of Mod Podge, but they dry flat so the look will be totally different.

can I make it with hot glue?
@JewelryTutorialHQ8 жыл бұрын
Hi Shravni! Sorry for the delayed reply. Hot glue is not very permanent so the E6000 will be better if you can find it!

Melodie Fix Very cool! What kind of glue worked for you?
@mohamedalimundekkatt550311 жыл бұрын
can we use other type of glue
@JewelryTutorialHQ11 жыл бұрын
Hi Dana, I think it would be ok to use a different kind of glue to attach the paper to the cardboard, but on top of the paper I think Dimensional Mod Podge is best. Other glues will dry flat so you won't be able to achieve the domed look on top. If you apply other glues too thickly, they will sink in the middle and leave a huge pit on your finished project. If you are ok with a flat look then other glue will probably be just fine! I would still apply it by spreading with a toothpick instead of using a brush so you don't get brush marks :) Let us know what works for you!

If on place of mod podge dimensial magic we can use nail polish
@JewelryTutorialHQ10 жыл бұрын
krupa shah I have never tried it so I can't say for sure. I would test it out on a scrap piece of paper (glued on cardboard already) to see how it works and to make sure it doesn't make the colors in the paper run. The great thing is that most of these materials are super cheap so you can play around with it a bit!

Will these infect my ears??
@JewelryTutorialHQ9 жыл бұрын
+Arrow_Collections If you have a problem with your ears becoming easily infected you would want to be careful about the type of metal you use for the studs. There are lots of options available! It's usually best to let infected ears heal around something that doesn't bother you, like surgical steel, and leave the earrings in until entirely healed (turning gently and cleaning with disinfectant every day). This could take weeks or even months so choose something you can sleep in, swim in, shower in, etc. (which means not these paper earrings since they're not waterproof :) If you keep switching out earrings while your ears are healing you can definitely make them worse. Once your ears are completely healed, only use metals that don't irritate your skin!
