Good video, good directions, good camera angles and focus, good editing out the slow boring tasks. Nice job.

Very good video instruction. I recently purchased a new JLU and ordered grab handles online. I was not impressed and wanted to make my own. Your instructions and great camera angles made it super easy to follow along. For the JL model, the 48 inches for the roll bar was perfect with a stainless steel adjustable D buckle.

Great instructions, one note for YJ owners I used 32" strips for the roll bar sections for a nice tight fit

Do you think this would also work for a TJ? The measurements in the video were a bit big for me
@tbaycom8 жыл бұрын
made them following your directions and they turned out great. made a couple little changes though. Used 3 colours for a bit more contrast and then used large dog collar snaps vs the small bracelet ones. If it keeps a collar together on a 150 lb rotty at the end of my leash, it will hold tight on the roll bar. thanks for the lesson

Hi, can I see how your 3 colors turned out?

what size buckles did you use in these? Also, your ink above is NOT working.

I used your video to make a pair of grab handles for my JK. I wanted the fit around the roll bar tighter, so used 42.5" long cords for the ends that have the clips. Kept everything else the same. It worked out great. Thanks for sharing your video.

So if I want to use one solid color for the 60 inch parts I would just get one 120 inch strand?
@peacefuljeffrey9 жыл бұрын
Not picking on your video, but I would never make handles with plastic bracelet buckles. Seriously. I've broken those things just by lookin' at them funny. They CANNOT be trusted for bearing loads-like holding onto them on rough terrain.

@KTMD I would recommend using a 5/16in chain shackle.

what color green did you use in the video?

I used a piece of this cardboard and pinned the project to the cardboard so it's easier to work with. Takes less time to make it.

Your math at 0:20 isn't working out. I get 42.6' per handle if single color. It would be useful if you would add the measurement info to your description. Taken from your video, per handle, I get: 48" 2x rollbar centers 120" 2x rollbar exteriors (2 pieces of 60" melt spliced if using 2 different colors) 55" 1x handle center 120" 1x handle exterior (2 pieces of 60" melt spliced if using 2 different colors) 42.6' total if single color 23' black + 19.6' green if done as in the video Math: single color: 48+48+120+120+55+120 = 511" or 42.6' dual color: black: 48+48+60+60+60 = 276" or 23' green: 55+60+60+60 = 235" or 19.6'

One more thing, is this compensated for the roll bar padding?
@HowtowranglerJeep9 жыл бұрын
Yes, the length will allow for the handles to wrap around the padding and still have a snug fit
@TheScotober8 жыл бұрын
Will the hard tops go back on with them in place? I can't seem to get them on with the hard top on.
@HowtowranglerJeep8 жыл бұрын
Yes absolutely, I have mine on and I also take it off all the time, once they are on, they won't get in the way.

How do you set the list of paracord and have a 60" paracord later in the clip???
@HowtowranglerJeep9 жыл бұрын
Im not sure what you mean?
@DriftingDragon749 жыл бұрын
The lengths of paracord he gives you in the beginning of the video are to build the frame or skeleton of the handle. The 60" inch pieces later in the vid are for the skin or outer casing of the handles. I used the 48" lengths he gave without buckles at all and it still fits the rollbar with padding nicely. (Obviously without buckles it requires removing the bar to install) The other modification I did was to run the paracord through a 6" piece of 5/8" automotive heater hose between the rollbar loops to help reduce pinching and it feels more "handle-like" than just the cord alone. The 55" length piece for the handle I reduced to 40" which still gave me just over a 6" wide handle grip area. With the larger diameter 5/8 hose for the center section I figured it would require more length to cover it so I cut 72" lengths but didn't need to since I failed to consider that I had shortened the handle width. Oops.

were the plastice buckles strong enough?
@RichardBronosky9 жыл бұрын
I bought the buckles linked from his website. They are very small. Would be great for a bracelet. I tested by placing the pepper number of wraps on both sides and pulling with my hands. I was able to break them very easily. I haven't made the handles yet because of this. Haven't decided on an alternative yet. I might just make them as described and tie them together with a piece of paracord if they break. I've seen a lot of people use steel shackles but hate the look. I might buy something like a titanium Dutch Clip if I need it and it fits.
