@thekingofrandom I think I know why those few pens went off at bad angles. I noticed that there is a hole in the sides of those pens as a manufacturing standard. If they were not sealed up tight gas would be forced out that hole on the side messing with the trajectory of the pen rocket. In one of the slow motion clips you can see that happening because of that.
@TheKingofRandom6 жыл бұрын
Shane Ramos That's exactly right! Nate caught that in tomorrow's video, and patched the hole with super glue

Also, if the straw is placed at the center of balance on the side instead of the bottom of the pen, you will get a more stable launch. Balance the rocket on your finger and place the straw so the middle of the straw is at the center of balance.

By packing smoke mixture in first the longer burning smoke stage could be triggered after the thrust stage. This might aid visibility and recovery. You could also make a nose cone from the cap that hides a spring and ribbon between the cap and body. Then tie it down with something that will burn away like an elastic or thread that loops past the nozzle and thus secures the recovery system.

Part of your launch stability issue is how small your metal pole is compared to how wide the straw is. It would also help to be around a foot longer and angle your rocket fins in a fashion the maximizes the spin of said rocket :) if you use a metal tube instead of plastic you can pack it down a bit more for more thrust!

The RRS, PRS, RMRS1 and RMRS2 were all prolific users of MicroGrain. One early altitude record was 14,400 feet and a later second one apparently 90,000 feet with MicroGrain.
