nice build, my dad makes these for a living here in italy, from what i see from all americans is that you lay the first row of bricks face down, we always put standing up then mortar and then connect the top with the nottom, for that size you make , shoud take no more than one day to build, but like i say, nice video..

Thx. Nice video, so the vermiculite is an insulator, what about the fact that you need lots of thermal mass on the bottom to retain the heat for second, third pizzas. Seems like things like calcium silicate board or vermiculite which are both insulators - while will keep the heat in the oven but won’t store the heat for the bottom - one of the most difficult aspects of cooking pizza in a wood fired oven but if you used straight refractory cement (like 6”) you would have the heat battery needed to solve the make up heat equation?

Nice work, Did you add water to the insulation mix or just dry? Looks soft dry mix to me when spread it! Your answer would help. Thanks

What was the total mix? vermiculite/cement/water...? great job.

4:1 volume; works good. I did a bag of vermiculite to a half a bag of Portland cement

Any disadvantages of just doing an insulation layer on the entire concrete slab? Also I was thinking of doing a 6" layer, yours seems too thin?
@FlomatonFamous Жыл бұрын
No disadvantages at all. The insulation layer is used mostly for retaining heat to keep the oven hot. You don’t have to have an insulation layer at all.
@lowspeed2000 Жыл бұрын
@@FlomatonFamous You do if you want to he able to cook other stuff and maximize the heat.

Just get two inch ceramic fiber board for the base. It works great, I did a 4” vermiculite insulation base and I haven’t had any issues

hi , dit you mix simple cement with Vermiculite ? dit you dont use Refractory cement ? , but normal cement wil crack of the heat !
@FlomatonFamous Жыл бұрын
Yes, simple cement, silicone sand (pool filter sand), fire clay. This should help. www.fornobravo.com/brick-oven-cooking/cooking-surface/
@VinnyGjokaj Жыл бұрын
Refractory cement is just Portland cement with some alumina in it. You can actually get alumina particles pretty easy, but vermiculite and cement is pretty good for this stuff
