I meant to tell you the other day how much I enjoyed this craft teaching session. They really are beautiful. My man told me that I could do them on the kitchen table as long as the back door was open and he thought it would be fine. Of course he did bring me one of our many fire extinguishers just for safety he said. Thanks again.😊

you could put your glitter polish on a sponge to dab on the plastic. it absorbs most of the liquid and gives you a higher concentration of glitter. making it more opaque

Good video -- thank you 😍 It does my heart good to see plastic (my arch-nemesis👹 💀) used for something beautiful. With every bead you make, you are helping to keep it out of the oceans and the food chain. As soon as the video started, my first thought was "I want to make beaded curtains." About 30 seconds later, you mentioned it ! Great minds...😀😁😃

I just glanced thru some comments, and I agree we should be mindful regarding the fumes. I noticed from the set up and back ground sounds that you were out side, that is perfect, as long as you are well ventilated you should be safe, and for those with chemical sensitivities, I suggest avoiding, or at a minimum, mask up. This video was very relaxing.

The top portion of the bottles could also be used to close bags, like rice or beans. Put the cut side of the bag through the drinking section of the bottle (thru the inside of the bottle) and fold down the bag and put the lid back on the water bottle.

The beads are very attractive. I do have a couple of concerns: 1. I would think it's important to make sure you do this project where it is well ventilated because of the chemical fumes. 2. Make sure you have adequate fire suppression measures because this project uses materials which are flammable. Thanks for sharing this craft.

Cheryl, Love your beads on how you do them. Awesome!! I have 2 ideas for you. 1. Add dollar store clear nail polish to any of your colors & glitter it gives it new life. The polish remover sort of dulls it out, I've been doing this since the 1980 & still have the polish & I collect every color I can because I Love nail polish. Lol! You can also use it as paint on anything. 2. The soda bottles: The bottoms look like flowers & you can do things with them & The tops save the caps pot a hole in the cap, cut like 5 strips up from the bottom of the top, round the edges fold them down a bit they make a flower.16 oz works good to but the body has the ridges Put a strand of Christmas lights in them & paint them with paint or Sharpie markers. They look cool. There are videos on how to do it. Then you can make some & make a video on your craftiness. Thanks, for your bottle bead video!!!! Brenda Bauer, Wallkill NY

Woman of Substance I want to make a beaded curtain using these beads but I know that it's a real committment in time and materials. Can you imagine how beautiful it could be, though? Like drops of candy in the sun!
@womanofsubstance87356 жыл бұрын
Cheryl . . . Yes, these beads would be gorgeous. The advantages of using wallpaper are: 1) She could carry the materials in a tote bag and work on it anywhere, and 2) Wallpaper is pre-glued, so she had to only moisten the strip with a sponge and roll it up; she could make about a bead-a-minute. The whole process took much less time and made for a soft curtain. I would probably prefer the look of your beads because I like a little sparkle, but I have no patience, plus my hands can't do much pinching any more. I just saw a tutorial for making the paper beads -- I guess everything old is new again. :-)

I'd think a drop of nail polish remover might thin out that gunk at the bottom of the a bottle just like paint thinner does for paints that are too thick. Might help spread the polish a little more easily. My grandmother used to make beads like this out of magazine paper. She'd made curtains for every door and window in her walk-up. Your method is a good use for old bottles. Thanks for the idea.
@cherylcoyote6 жыл бұрын
Anthony Morris Good idea for thinning the polush. I've wanted to make a bead curtain forever and I like the idea of a mixed media project with glass beads, hand made recycled beads, paper beads, etc. If I ever finish the project I'll be sure to upload it. I grew up in tbe 60s/70s and I remember all sorts of craft projects that used recycled materials. Craft supplies weren't big business yet so people used leftover materials. I miss those days!

Cheryl Coyote ...you may remember shrink art. Sadly I don’t but I do remember shrinky dinks. I’ would first color which ever shapes or characters out of the thicker kind of plastic I believe with colored pencils then cut them out. Sometimes put a hole at the top if I wanted it for a keychain or earrings. Then I’d place it in the oven for so many minutes and watch it shrink down to a tiny size and when it came out and cooled it was a very hard plastic. That’s what I remember.

My daughters sound like me on audio but I was taken aback one day when my niece sent me a video of her baby and when she talked to her I thot it was me! Lol

That’s funny. You made me laugh too!! That has happened to me before. It was a friend of mine. We were listening to an old answering machine tape. We were listening to all different messages and the greeting message. And I said to her “that’s me on the tape talking wow how weird I sound!” And she was like “WHAT are YOU talking about that’s me talking, it’s my answering machine”. I was like ooooh. REALLY!!? ha!!

Thanks Angela! If you do this craft and post a video, or facebook images or whatever, I'd love to see the result. I'm doing a local hippie-style craft show in October and I hope to have lots of fun items made using these beads. Of course, I just recycle the unused portion of the bottles, or you can keep a few tops for funnels and the bottoms make nice candle molds. You can also marry two bottoms together and use them for small-item storage. Thanks for watching! xxoo

Great tutorial and awesome idea! When you showed the left over bits of bottle and some ways to reuse them I though funnel and paint palette :P Great ideas all round!

I get more worked up over figuring out how to use leftover materials than I do making the main project. You should see my stash of tiny fabric bits! I mean, seriously, Id have to be making quilts for mice! xxoo

Cheryl Coyote I save every little scrap of fabric too :p No idea what to do with them!

I think you could use a clear polish and just sprinkle glitter on top. you may need to add a light top coat over it but there is so many colors and sizes of glitters and they are very inexpensive.

You can also use the top half of the bottle as a funnel in the bottom for a snack divider because it has like that cool star

I just marvel at all the ideas for reusing plastic soda and water bottles. I still need to make some bath bombs using the bottoms of the water bottles as molds. xxoo

Thanks Randy! That project turned out really well - a little differently from the other plastic bottle bead tutorials I saw while researching this craft. What sort of craft would you like to see a tutorial on? I can do just about anything. xxoo

You could also roll up the panel from the soda bottle to a tube of the correct diameter, and cut once, lengthwise.

Cynthia Price Hi Cynthia - Excellent time saving idea. Viewers have come up with some great hacks for this craft - thanks!

Nice ideology. You could heat the strips with a blow dryer to soften the plastic and then you can also wrap them onto a smaller base, such as a knitting needle or piece of wire hanger with the ends taped for safety.

Same here! My buddy, Tom, just trashed a castoff pile that had a bunch of unused paper grocery bags. I've been wanting to make those paper bag albums. Now I can make one for everyone in the family! xxoo

Cindy Riley Hi Cindy! You can do all sorts of things with these beads. I was thinking to use them in a beaded curtain to hang in an open doorway. They also look beautiful macramed into a hemp or raffia bracelet!

Also, try stringing the beads on the yarn/thread then fingerknitting.

+Across The Pond I haven't made another batch since I did this video but I've been thinking of all the things I could do with the beads. We don't drink soda at our house so I'll have to collect the bottles from my soda-drinking friends and family. I've experimented with other plastic recyclables but the soda bottles really seem to work the best. Matronista is a sweetie. xxoo
