I use to run a boiler at a lumber mill. Yeah reclaiming hot condensate is critical as there is tons of energy remaining in the hot water. We ran at 150psi and it’s amazing how much energy can be transferred through high pressure steam. A big thing is removing oxygen from the condensate. We use chemicals to do this as well as a vented DA tank. The oxygen in the water will create carbonic acid and start eating carbon steel pipes. It’s most noticeable at elbows.

The Rankine Cycle... The intro to Chemical Process Engineering is coming back to me 😅 Turbines are generally high precision engineering feats, so I don't envy you on your journey to find/make one. Maybe start small/simple, and iterate from there?

I feel like your best option here is making your own turbine. That can be quite a challenge but if you connect multiple car blower fans you might get some reasonable generation out of it. Or you can always change the motors for alternators. They can give good output if you rewire the stators. Also I think that impulse turbines would be a lot cheaper to build. Really nice project can't wait for your next video on it.

very cool project! Have you played with making your own wood gas generator to fuel the power plant with wood? There are a couple large scale power plants in Michigan that run on wood gas derived from wood scraps/silage. From what I recall, to achieve maximum efficiency with a steam engine, you need to run it with super heated steam (around 600F deg) so that the steam becomes a true gas.
@Neptunium2 жыл бұрын
Thanks... No I didn't make my own wood gas ! Lol this would have been beyond the scope of what I was trying to do, you know, these projects are expensive and extremely time consuming, not to mention the editing, narration, post etc... But hey someone could pick up where I left off and continue on.. maybe take the idea to a new direction...

I see... Somehow, I am not surprised!... Are you from Detroit ? Where is the interest for Haiti coming from? Do you speak French?
@blancinhaiti57242 жыл бұрын
@@Neptunium Michigan. I've been intrigued by Haiti for many years for various reasons. As bad as it is there, I'm drawn to the "wild west" nature of it. It is a place where you are free to pursue "big ideas" without the need to comply with rules and regulations--as long as you have the local people on your side. Only about 10% of Haitians speak French (90% only speak kreyol). That is a whole other issue, i.e. most Haitians cannot read government documents and god forbid they get hauled into court...they don't understand what is happening. In the Department Grand'Anse (where my team is focused) about 40% of people cannot read or write...they are illiterate. Haiti consists of 10 Departments that are similar to the 50 States in the USA. The peasants are not dumb but are very smart in terms of subsistence farming...but most families can only afford to send one or two of their children to school as it costs about $50/year for tuition. i.e. most people in the Grand'Anse only make about $1/day. There are no public K-12 schools in Haiti.
@Neptunium2 жыл бұрын
@@blancinhaiti5724 sounds about right unfortunately I am not surprised. I do understand the "wild west" attraction. The frustrating bureaucracy and legislation makes it difficult to get thing done in a time frame that would make sense for the people suffering the most . I dont really want to get into a debate here but I am not a fan of the administration in general as you may have seen in a few videos.. Maybe you and your wife could retire there at some point ? that`s what I would do! Anyway, if you need some analysis done as long as it`s not a thousand sample and you aren`t press by time , I can do a few from home ..

if you end up using a Tesla turbine, as some suggested, you may also consider decreasing complexity of the entire system, as Tesla turbine can work with "cold steam", based on cryophorus principle, as demonstrated here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gKe1dHWVfc2mm7s (short) and here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/np6bnpJmp9-sg9E (long), as in that case all the safety net needed to deal with the high pressure goes away.

Interesting... How easy is it to find a Tesla turbine ? How expansive are they? ... I'll check into that.. thanks !

@@Neptunium Not sure where one can by one. Historically there has been, and even currently there is, extremely limited research in these 0.5-100KW steam power turbines based on the boundary-layer-fluid principle. There are 3-4 youtube research channels that show experiments with them ( as the one I linked to ) but their turbines are self made. Notably they are not so difficult to make. even without especial tools, although recent geometrical ratios need to be considered for good efficiency.
