DIY Puff Sleeve Dress - selkie inspired

Hey guys! It’s been quite a while since I’ve decided to post a video, and by that I mean EIGHT MONTHS. But today, I decided to crawl out of my little quarantine hole and make the effort to film a video. Lately on my Instagram explore page I've been noticing this dress made by the company Selkie, and decided to recreate it myself!

I think you did a great job on the dress, I'd wear it. If the back and zipper bother you alot you can redo that section. But I wouldnt worry too much about it. Probably cant tell unless someone is close to it. I love the shade of both fabrics though. I like your illustrations and how you put the video together.

Hi! Thank you so much!! I ended up using 3.5 yards of the organza fabric (which can vary based on body measurements) and about 0.5 yards for the "lining" of the bodice with the crepe fabric, which would also depend on body measurements :)

I didn't use an actual pattern so I mostly eyed it, but I just made sure there was almost a bell shape for each sleeve to really get its puffiness, as well as making the bottom arm length of the sleeve about 4x my arm circumference, so when it's gathered it's a lot puffier! Hope that helped haha

Unfortunately I don't have a pattern :(! But I can definitely break it down real quick haha - The main measurements I used were my overbust, or where the top of the bodice starts, underbust, length of the bodice from the top to bottom and from armpit to bottom, and how long I wanted the skirt to be. I used the measurements to split the bodice panels into five separate pieces (one center, two side, two back), remembering to include seam allowance of about 0.5 inches (as well as 0.75 for the two back panels for the zipper), and getting an approximate curvature for the front! I made sure to make the skirt part, which was just 3 oversized rectangles, about 3.5x my underbust circumference to really gather it. For the sleeves I included the main shape, but the width ended up being about 4x my arm circumference. This is super long but I gave a brief sketch of the patterns throughout the video if that helps!
