I built a new 2 sided quail hutch. These creatures grow so fast and there is no room in the other grow pens. These baby quail will be ready to butcher in 6-8 weeks.

Excellent work with the hutch and I'd definitely consider quail as an egg and meat source. I like using quail eggs for making mini scotch eggs. I kept quail as pets as a kid, but we got home from the beach one day and they were all gone. We strongly suspected the neighbors, who often barbecued quail, had taken them for the barbecue they were having that day...

Love the new quail pen. Perhaps you can put a water catchment system on the back of the pen, to catch the water so it doesn't blow onto the quail, and provide fresh free water to them.

The hutch looks great, you did a good job on it. A suggestion, once you find out where it's going drive a t-post on the inside of each leg and screw the hutch to it. That will stop the wind from flipping the hutch. It sounds like mojo is getting more comfortable staying around his herd. Have a Great Day

From the comments so far, it seems everyone who's commented on the hutch feels the same way that I do...it came out real nice. Functionality is more important than perfection. If it does everything you want it to do, then it's a job well done. Good to hear that Mojo's instincts are kicking in. You and Rachel have been very patient with him and have been sensitive to his needs, and it's paying off. He seems to be accepting his new life with his new family. I see the tree is still there in the background. Maybe you can get that thing cut up when the weather gets cooler. Later, brother!!!

I hatched 7 dozen eggs about a month ago. About 60 of them hatched. Of the 60 i have 40 or so left. Most of the chicks that died died because of being trampled by others. I had a couple of them with splayed legs that got buried by the other quail but all in all for a first time brooder i think i did pretty good. In another couple weeks they will start laying. Yay. They are super easy to care for but they sure eat alot. It slowed down the waste once they were out of the brooder and couldn't walk into the feeder anymore but WOW. I've went thru about 35 pounds of food. I'm going to get some wild birdseed and grow some food for them( in sprouts and seed plants) to offset the cost. Though 40 quail eating 50 pounds of food and giving me meat and eggs is still worth it to me.

In my area, Connecticut, USA 🇺🇸, everyone is suffering with allergies, Everton is sick from an over abundance of ragweed and the pollen from it just makes you sick an you just feel nauseous, feverish, no appetitive and while we feel like we might be getting our first frost by the end of the month, I don’t think the first frost will be enough to take care of this big ragweed growth we had this year, the headaches are unreal. Kevin the Quail cabinet looks really looks great. I can’t believe you said you don’t care what dear Rachel thinks about the color; yeah it’s got to be the ragweed, just joking she’s a great lady with lots of humor. You gonna make some pull out trays so you can go to the dollar store get some aluminum trays and put some lime and/ or baking soda in the pan for odor killing and just rinse them out and alternate and then toss into the garbage. Feel better and regards to the family.

You can eat pumpkin blooms you know (or any other squash bloom). Simply stuff them like a stuffed cabbage leaf or a mushroom cap, and cook them like stuffed cabbage. You can use any type of stuffing or filling you want. They are great like jalapeno poppers, just dice the pepper up and add it to the filling. There's no end to the ways you can fix them. And that way your pumpkin vine is still productive, even though the blooms on it now will never produce pumpkins.
