This is beautifully explained from a visual perspective showing the required degrees of freedom to permit compliance where needed. As the title states: technical characteristics. But what really showed the DIY aspect was the fiberglass seat! Well Done.

@@ArtemiosFilatov May I see photos or will you post an update video. I would love to see the new prototype
I applaud your ingenuity. Because the bike is designed for use exclusively on a rail system, I would think you would get better performance from a less knobby rear wheel, one that provides less rolling resistance.

Thanks for your comment. This is my very first prototype. It's actually not too heavy. Weight is not a problem in those constructions. The main problems are deraillings. My current prototype actually has a bigger weight. Check @Railbiking in Greece

Thanks for the video. It's very informative and I enjoyed watching it. About the only thing I would do with your rail-bike is drill the bolts so you could use a cotter pin to keep from losing the nuts.............................or you could just double nut it.. Thanks again.(:>)

Wow, you really went heavy duty, you weren't messing around. Believe me, you can build a railbike with thinwall tubing and aircraft rod ends, what's a whole lot lighter. All you really need is the pilot wheels up front, and a small, unflanged bogie wheel to ride the opposite rail. Pilot wheels for the rear bike tire, only needed if the track is crowned and the tire won't otherwise stay on the rail. Wheels have to go behind the tire, will not work if in front
@nathanmaier5080 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely fantastic. You are a blessing.
@harrygatto4 жыл бұрын
Interesting though rather heavy duty. Bicycle style riding position may feel more balanced than this one. Derailleur type gears are prone to being clogged by grass, an old-style Sturmey Archer type hub gear set might be better. I get the feeling that this is a prototype and capable of further refinement.

The idea is there, but the fiberglass seat could be a real pain in the a55. Doesn't take much to start feeling it. I would at least paint the seat to seal off the potential irritation .

Good design just a bit of overkill on the weight and structural strength. Good to see the recumbent position as it is the most comfortable. Mind you my bent seat has full mesh support and no hard fiberglass.

To me, a bicycle railbike and a 4 wheel railbike are two different vehicles... like a motorcycle and a car. I am dedicated to making a system that folds on a bicycle so it can be ridden to the tracks... this system works that way but, it is pretty awkward riding it as a bicycle... but one can do so. therbfamily.homestead.com/adirondack.html

the only problem with this model are the switches on the tracks
@ArtemiosFilatov5 жыл бұрын
You are right about the switches, however, this is not the only one. There are more like: a) long-chain and too big size on the wheel. It was very hard to start pedalling especially uphill b) at times rail could be thinner or fatter so the railbike was ether off the track or stuck c) unstable because the centre of gravity was too high d) too heavy because of the side wheel e)the fat of the rail is 6cm and the fat of the weel 6cm as well. It is very hard to keep both surfaces in touch. A small anomaly to the tracks could set off the tacks the bike
