Hey lovelies! My friend gave this to his dancers backstage, and I asked him how much these rainbow roses were, and they are really expensive to buy at a florist! (also, it's rare to find)... so i thought why not try it out myself with a little science experiment! :) This was my first attempt.. so some failed.. I hope the next time I try it again it'll turn out better!
So here are the steps to this tutorial:
Step #1: Cut the stems of the roses in water to shorten them so they absorb the liquid faster
Step #2: Slice the stem into 2, 3, or 4 parts so you can place them in separate colours
Step #3: Pour warm water into clear glasses (cold water works too but it will be slower)
Step #4: Mix in 2 tsps of sugar & 2 tsps of white vinegar (to help colour retention)
Step #5: Mix in the food colouring (the brand I'm using here is RedMan)
Step #6: Place the stalks in the colours you want to be absorbed into the rose/flower
Step #7: Leave them in a cool area to sit for 24hrs minimum.
Tips I learnt after this first attempt:
♥ cut the stems in water!
♥ use a proper garden tool cutter if you have one
♥ measure the height of your glasses and slice the stems using that length so they sit nicely on your glass rims
♥ get pre-mature (not yet full bloom) roses/flowers if possible from your florist/gardener so they can last longer even after colouring
Hope you guys try this out and take photos for me to see! Good Luck!
