I just told my friend that I created a raised bed garden with these bricks from Home Depot. She did not understand when i was explaining it to her. Did a quick search and found your video. Thank you for explaining this!

Thanks for addressing the fact when you are doing a deep on the ground garden bed , you don’t need to clear the grass or weed barrier. When I told people this they look at me strange . I have 12 in deep beds on the ground/grass no barrier. Never had a weed problem. Also you don’t have to build the whole box with all soil. You can fill the bottom with wood, and other natural materials to composed down over time , this helps with the cost of soil and compost. In the beginning.

We made a 4x8 box stacked 3 blocks high. For some reason, one bottom corner started to move a week after planting it. Maybe the rebar would have helped? Also, we didnt kill the grass. We put plastic in the bottom of the box. I sure hope this works. It cost us about $300 with wood, bricks, compost, and soil. Good luck everyone.

Thank you! Great primer with tips. If I use the rebar that you referenced would it be safe to say I could make a raised bed that is 2 ft tall?

I have never seen these blocks before. They really will cut down the time it takes to build a raised planter. Thank you for sharing, Whitney. I have to add, please be careful when filming while driving.

Hi!!!! These are the best things I’ve used for planters. Thank you for caring about me 🤗 I wasn’t driving though, I promise! I don’t know why the footage flipped?

@@WhitneyBaldwin You are very welcome. I'm glad to hear it was the footage that flipped. As I watched that, my Mom gene kicked in so I had to say something. I'm wondering if these blocks could working building a small area around out trees in the front yard. I am so tired of mowing around them and tossing bark everywhere when getting close enough to get all the grass.

You could use field stones around the base of the tree. This is what I’ve done and it works great! You do need to weed wack around the border though 🙃

@@WhitneyBaldwin That probably would look better as our home is Victorian in style, though built early this century. I was hoping to find something easy that hubby and I could do ourselves, though this is on the list for the landscapers, the color of block that we've use in the past is no longer available. The trees are on a slight incline, so I thought we could use one of these blocks on to top and two high at lower side. I'm not sure that would work because of the incline there may wind up only needed three sides. Which is why we haven't done anything yet. We had a lot of work done last fall.

Hills are always the hardest to figure out! Stone would definitely fit your style of house. I’m struggling with a road frontage hill myself. I think I’m going to hire a professional to come out and either do the work or tell me how to do it because I’m stuck.

We have hemlock in our area but if you can afford cedar or redwood then by all means go for it!

It's one year later. How did the garden bed hold up? I'm thinking about making a bed this way, but it seems like it would fall apart easily.

No worries! I built some in my garden 3 years ago and they are still in great condition. In guessing I’ll get at least two more years out of mine

Are you familiar with non-toxic sealers for raised bed wood? I’m looking at one called “GardenSeal” and another called “EcoWood”…?
@WhitneyBaldwin
@WhitneyBaldwin Жыл бұрын
I’ve heard of garden seal but I haven’t used it. Tung oil is a great natural penetrating sealer but look at the cure time.
