This is amazing! Your attention to detail has really created something extraordinary! Between the walls and the roof I would never ever guess that this started out as just a plastic cottage.

Thanks so much that's the plan. I real want to start out with something cheap. And make it lux looking through cheap materials too like paper, recycled stuff etc. Lots of work to go still

I have spent weeks looking at miniature thatching vids, and they usually look like symbols of thatching, like the green lollipop as symbol of tree. This is the first to look like real thatching! You're great.

Brilliant idea. I want to make a WW2 1/6 Scale Russian Log Cabin and it will be staying outside. I wanted to make a Thatched Roof that would be able to be left outside in all Weathers and this is a brilliant idea. Video saved for future reference.

Thanks, I was wanting to do some thatch on a miniature and this is perfect. I have some faux grass but will hunt out more! Yours turned out beautifully! I have a Tudor house kit which I am going to put together after I finish the little farm cottage I am building just now so I'll try out the thatch on the cottage first and if it comes out anywhere as nicely as yours did I may thatch the house too.

That's absolutely so adorable that it's put me in a quandry. I so want to do that now to my 'haunted' dollshouse, but I'm pretty much done with it, so an alteration of that magnitude, at this stage, would I think disturb so much 😢

Love love love. I saw a nice cottage made by a professional miniaturist on Pinterest and I made my own, sort of inspired by that cottage, but only with what I have.. cardboard and wooden coffee stirrers and other bits. Im Almost done with the exterior but needed a thatched roof. So thanks so much for your great idea. Your cottage looks beautiful. What will you name it ?

I actually need to do some fake grass down the side of my house (real house lol) and getting samples!!! wow, hadn't even thought of this brilliant idea. Samples for a legit reason, AND I get some supplies! Wonderful idea!

Nice job - good inspiration. Maybe a hot glue gun could have worked to glue the fake grass on to the roof.

Yes for sure.

Instead of the spray paint which really isn't ideal for that grassy stuff, how about dying with a fabric paint? That way it would have soaked in better. Just get a large container for your soaking tub. If someone does this for an outside birdhouse, not just decoration, you don't want the toxic spray paint. Have to think environmentally friendly for the birds. No toxic glues either.

What length of faux grass is that? When I go on free sample sites, there's lots of different lengths available.

I think I used 25-40mm grass to get that thick look.
