For your undersized hole, tack weld a thin sheet of metal either inside or outside of the hole and mark your center. Drill with the correct size hole saw through both the sheet metal and bumper for the correct size.
@FatBat5k2 жыл бұрын
That's a pretty good idea , maybe if the size hole is quite a bit larger

That bumper is awesome. I'm going to build one soon. and yeah those trailer lights are on the back of big rigs and you bump docks all the time with the trailers, and you never break lights. I think its the best option.
@frankiem7493 жыл бұрын
Personally I would have gone with the round trailer lights. But I can't deny that those oblong lights give it a unique factor. Great bumper let's hope it can take a good licking.

Next time run the bigger hole saw through a piece of plywood or 1x then clamp that piece of wood on the bumper where you want the bigger hole, dwala you have a perfect guide for the bigger hole saw. I am going to build the same bumper without the lights so it can be an air tank. Thanks for the great idea!

@jamestyra90493 жыл бұрын
If you ever have to use a hole saw to cut a bigger hole after you already cut one try to put a board behind it then you can mark your center in the board and drill the hole no problem. Also when you put led lights in place of standard turn signal lights you can put a resistor with them to get your turn signals to work properly.

I fear the first tug with anything in the receiver the bumper will roll down. I welded plate and attached also to the two body bolts under the tailgate for additional strength. Ive pulled dodge ramchargers out with my similar built bumper. You'll find out.

I have plans and steel products to do almost exactly what you did, but I don't care for the 4x4 tube steel and going with all 2x4 instead. Picked up some surface mount LED brick lights that look similar to factory configuration, just 20% smaller. Good job!

Time for a plasma cutter. You will never regret the investment. And never leave your welds. Clean them up and you will see any weakness that will crack later. Solder all connections and shrink tube the add a heavy coat of liquid tape. Nice build.

Why did you cut off the bottom of 5 doors? It was possible to put a spacer 3-5 mm. under the bumper to lower it.

Eventually this Samurai will be almost like a buggy. Seemed like the easiest way to move forward. You're right, I could've lowered the bumper too.

OK, Very quick clean fix when you grab the wrong holesaw. (TOO SMALL.) Get a piece of thin wall scrap. Weld it into the inside of the hole. Use the bad holesaw as your guide. It’s right for the small hole. Loose the bit. Set to where its touching the flat in the back. Tighten Gingerly run the saw in the hole. This will mark your new center hole. Center punch the mark. Put the right holesaw in. Cut your hole.

@@FortuneOffRoad I’ve been fixin my ah shots fer 50 years. You do it that long you pick things up. Two things… Nothing can’t be fixed. The fix will be a lot simpler than you think. The first thing to remember is put the flat spot on the top. Once you eliminate the problem you can shift your thinking to the solution, with an uncluttered mind. Check the cussing at the door. After the discovery outburst.

@FortuneOffRoad4 ай бұрын
I would, but I don't have the bumper anymore. It's the same dimensions as the rear if the body
@davidcraft49092 жыл бұрын
Did you purposely sort of made sure that your tow point was kind of pulling flat and center with the bumper mounting points, so that way it would be the strongest way to work with the factory mounts. If so, we think alike and that is the only solution I could come up with, without like trying to mod the rear frame. then I re watch this video and noticed yours would be pulling center on the mounting points, lol
@FortuneOffRoad2 жыл бұрын
Mine needs reenforments big time. I haven't really messed with it since. I'll probably weld some crossbraces on from the frame eventually.
@davidcraft49092 жыл бұрын
@@FortuneOffRoad It almost seems like you would have to extend the frame a little bit to be able to have a really solid mounted bumper. and that's why I'm avoiding this project lol. its not easy
@FortuneOffRoad2 жыл бұрын
@David Craft after Hammers I'm planning on going to toyotas and stretching it so I'm most likely going to weld it all to the frame and get serious.

There is one thing that I don't like about this build. I don't think those bumper mounts are strong enough. the whole force is going to be applied to 2 flat pieces of 1/4" at the bottom. It looks like it needs a way to attach to the top of the frame as well. don't get me wrong I still like this video its helping me figure mine out, but yeah that just my opinion. not to mention the frame side of the mount is thin.
@FortuneOffRoad3 жыл бұрын
You're totally right, I haven't gotten around to it yet, but I'll be doubling up on the plate. Thinking about a mount to the round bar just like my front bumper has.. Then, when I stretch it I will most likely weld directly to the frame 🤘🏻
@davidcraft49093 жыл бұрын
@@FortuneOffRoad the way the frame is set up at the back does make it hard to do anything else but attach it to the factory mounts. My rear bumper has a 1/4" piece welded to the round tube i guess to reinforce it and its cracked it ripped the thin tube.. I will be digging into my back bumper setup soon.
