The DIY project you are describing is something I've always wanted to do but never got the time. The best i can do is build 2 open baffle with multiple drivers and try to cross them over with maggies at 200-250hz so I can get the dynamics of a box speaker. Really looking forward to see you build your project.

Feels like this setup is the final step in audio. I'm looking at a baffleless build using GW-1858 x 4 for bass, and some GRS PT5010-8 (and 3") planar panels for DIY. People say under 30Hz is no point in a small room but you can use DSP to correct and measure for that. Active w/ DSP can even change filters on the fly according to genre, etc. Saving a fortune on drivers and cabinets, but needing 3-5 channels per speaker puts the real cost of this setup in amplification. Good news is class D sounds better than ever, and you cannot really notice dsp as much in bass notes where it is needed for room correction. You don't even really need onboard DSP anymore, just get something like the Motu Mk3/5 etc, and you can run custom dsp software on a pc, many independent channels. Take mic samples. Only tinkering left is to play with different drivers for the rest of time. /End game. ** Chef's kiss. **

I have enjoyed music for as long as I can remember. I can tell you that as a young kid it was the IRS III that changed how I heard sound, all for the better. I distinctly remember going into a store called Pacific Stereo and hearing them. To this day, I still cannot explain with any detail what I heard. How do you describe what you are seeing while standing on the edge of the Grand Canyon? When something touches your brain, it leaves an impression that can't truly be explained. I've mentioned it before, but what brought me to your channel is my researching the Kappa 9.1. What caught my eye and attention was that with your Infinities, you had Maggys standing next to them. It instantly brought me back to the IRS III's and wanting to replicate that experience. As I was starting to put together a" big boy" system after a life of crap, it was the Kappa 9.1 that was the goal. I was ecstatic to find a pristine pair and was heart broken when the deal fell through. For once in my life luck was actually on my side. I ended up finding on the used market end game speakers that in my mind did everything the Infinity's did but even better. The tonality was the same but the detail blew the infinites away. In researching the speakers I have now, I saw someone selling some that also had the Maggys right next to them. (we must have all been stung by the IRS series bug) The only thing that has stopped me from trying that same thing is the crossover. Infinity did it well and with my very zero knowledge of crossovers. I think my poor man's version would have shown to be exactly that. A cheap attempt to reproduce a dream. I am excited to follow along with this project of yours. Unfortunately I will have little to no expertise to offer. I don't know you, but I know what you are hearing from your current speakers and know exactly what you are trying to achieve. I cant wait. this is going to be fun spending your money to do it. haha

I just watched a video that may or may not be helpful in your project depending on where you are in the design process. GR_ Research did a video titled "DIY Guys... This Is Making Me Crazy". I am not endorsing or disagreeing with the contents but in my mind, it is very good food for thought. The video primarily deals with the subject of baffles and their design. And because of the backward curve design of the IRS series, I thought it might be worth a look as you go forward.
